Rio Ferdinand Gets 8 Month Ban

Fifa was breathing down their neck.. other EPL teams were crying foul and complaining, other Champions League teams were complaining to UEFA.

And they made an example of him. My bet is he comes back in horrid form, and that his career is now on the downslide.

Does anyone know if this is a full ban, IE, is he banned from practicing and such.. or is it just a competition level ban?

John Terry is just as good as Rio. As long as him and Campbell and both fit it should be OK for England. worry about the forwards instead.

I think it's "only" for the official tournaments. He can play friendly matches and train where he wants.

Rio should have attended the test but I've read somewhere that he was called to take it and that the guys who were doing all the testing left before he even got there.

Anyway ,8 months for missing the test is way too much. We're not getting the full story ,definitely.
Failing to appear can't be grounds for an eight months ban. That's insane.

Either way ,England is weaker now ,but they can manage.Manchester can't.I'd say that Man Utd's title dreams have just ended.

Yup, he told them that he'd be right there after they called him but the testers packed up and left without giving him a chance to take it. I would have been ok with a ban of 1-2 months but 8 MONTHS?!?!?!?! That's just ludicrous. :kader:

It looks like we'll have to bid for a central defender when the transfer window opens up. John O'Shea will be put in Rio's spot alongside Mikael and Quinton will be placed as left-back when Rio's ban begins. And even then we'll probably end up losing Quinton for a while since he'll probably play in the African Nation's Cup. :kader:

8 months for missing a drug test? That is just ridiculous. I hate Manchester United but a ban this long is just unnecessary and uncalled for.

or what?

Banned
Life Ban
I won't even say he was used an example, because he avoided the maximum of 24 months.

Personally I would have just let him apologise and agree to weekly testing for the next two years to remove the stain that he was deliberately avoiding the test, but I am no football administrator.

I think what also influenced their decision was the attitude of Manchester Utd football club. They tried to invoke all the legalese they could and that annoyed the FA I think.
To them and the world he was guilty, and he should have not wasted time, admitted his guilt and present his mitigation and also, recommend a ban of three months for himself.
