it's very common... it think is better that way, Robinho wants is mother back asap, and he will pay if it's neccesary. If the police involves too deep in this, the kidnappers could kill him mom or send a 'proof of life' to Robinho, like in Argentina: a finger

damn, southamerican fans are really insane this days ... last week Independiente ultras threatened to kill Independiente players if they win Newell's (independiente ultras are friends of newell's ultras) because if newells lose, they wouldnt be champions. well, the good thing is nothing happened and Newells are champions.
