Ranieri: Abramovich 'knows nothing'

Claudio Ranieri has launched a strong attack on Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, saying the Russian tycoon knows nothing about football and wanted to sack him from the moment he took control.

In an interview in Spanish sports daily Marca on Tuesday the 52-year-old Italian said Abramovich had wanted to appoint England manager Sven Goran Eriksson.

'Ever since he arrived at the club Abramovich wanted Eriksson,' Ranieri told Marca ahead of Chelsea's Champions League semi-final first leg with Monaco. 'From the very start. They even met in the summer.

'But Eriksson said he couldn't leave the England team and so the next day Abramovich met me and told me: 'OK, you've done a good job these last few years and you are going to carry on.''

Ranieri said even victory in the Champions League final would not persuade the club to keep him on.

'Look I already have the Abramovich sword embedded in me. I'm convinced that even if I win the Champions League I will be sacked.'

Marca say the interview was carried out on April 8.

Ranieri said Abramovich, who took over in July, had little understanding of the work he had done the previous season when he steered Chelsea to fourth place in the premier league.

'Abramovich knows nothing about football,' said Ranieri.

'That's the real shame. If he had understood what my side had achieved that season he would have valued me more highly. We did it all without any money.'

Abramovich spent some £110m on new players this season but the Italian said Abramovich had no appreciation of how difficult it would be to make the team gel.

'It was a very tough job to sign so many players and get them to play together. Abramovich didn't realise that. He thought I'll sign that one and that one and then we will win.'

So, I'm pretty sure this means that Claudio is out, and they can't have Sven, so who's gonna manage Chelsea next year? Glenn Hoddle, anyone? I'd love to see him run them into the ground. :p

That is not good news for Chelsea but alot has happened since the 8th so this all water under the bridge.

I myself had a laugh when I saw the headline Ranieri finds strength in Kipling poem.

Just like Saha at United, he is done come summer time! But this guy has the respect of everyone ....I doubt that Chelsea fans could be too concerned cause they will just get another coach and win more trophies next season with a bunch of NEW PLAYERS doing the job on the FIELD.:crazyboy:

it is also on bbc....he said he has the "sword of Abramovich in him". I agree....the only reason Roman has not done anything so far is cause of what Ranieri has done in the CL. I agree with Ranieri that if only Roman knew what he did with a team and no money last season, Abramovich would not (check that WILL NOT) fire him. Unfortunately like one of you guys saod,,,,,ROMAN has all the money.

i dunno...from the article i read, ranieri's quote was "when roman first came to chelsea he knew nothing about football" or something like that. it was like an interview to a spanish magazine and it got misinterpreted along the way.

anyways, he's gone and he knows it. it's a shame, really.

I hope Ranieri gets Chelsea into the CL final and then resigns at the end of the season. He doesn't deserve the treatment he's been getting and it's about time he stood up for himself. Show that bastard Abramovich who's boss.

Go Ranieri !!!!! :rockman:

To tell you the truth, I kinda please that Roman will sack him. God knows how scary Chelsea could be in the future if CR still with them. This year he manage to keep all the big egos calm in his team and got the players and fans respect.

He maybe be a good coach but you don't talk **** about your boss in public. I hope he gets fired.

I think he is talking sh!t about his boss becaues he knows that he is gonna get fired...

Which really sucks because Ranieri has been a great coach for Chelsea helping them qualify last year and making it all the way to the semi's.

To openly be looking for a replacement is just messed up by Abramovich. But I guess he doesn't care, he crazily rich.
