= free kick to Portugal .. good one ref

Rooney touched the ball without a boot, so it's a foul, it's explicit in the rules that the ball can't be played without the boots. according to the rules as well, Rooney should have seen the yellow card in that play...

so it was a good call from the ref!

LOL. My thoughts exactly. Did you see the freekicks given for NOTHING. I remember one where Vassel controlled the ball and a freekick was given against him and one (this made me laugh) where a Portuguese player jumped on top of (I think it was Campbell) and the freekick was give against him.

But yeh Shearer ignore that post, biased as f***

don't think so no ....
and it was the 7 shooter. After the 1st five they're decided one at a time.

Yup. As for no gloves, I don't think there's anything wrong with it neither, and the ref would've called it straight away as he's standing there.

About the boot thing though. That's a new rule to me, so maybe it exists or maybe it doesn't. On this instance I'm tempted to believe that it is a rule because Rooney didn't foul the defender and neither did the defender foul Rooney. It was only after Rooney touched the ball with his bootless foot that the referee called it.

I agree with the fouls against Vassell though. He did nothing for the 1st 2 given against him.

Yeah.... i'm reading rule 4, the player's equipment....

"Infringements/Sanctions
For any infringement in this law:
-play need not be stopped"

the referee is meant to send the player off the field, to correct his equipment

law number 4 read it carefully ;)
am i crazy but i've read it through several times and it doesnt say that anywhere in there ... you're reading between the lines... wrongly

Footwear is part of the basic equipment, but it also says:
When there's an infrigement of the equipment the player has to leave the field of play When THE BALL NEXT CEASES TO BE IN PLAY, unless he has already corrected his equipment.

grr lol
what's this about ... "play need to be stopped"
FIFA can't even write english
That doesn't clearly state that it has to stop as soon as the equiment is lost... rule is ambiguous

whatever ... you do NOT get a Booking for touching the ball with a shoeless foot ... you made that up

Restart of Play
If play is stopped by the referee to administer a caution:
the match is restarted by an indirect free kick taken by a player of the opposing side, from the place where the ball was located when the referee stopped the match * (see page 3)

since Rooney touched the ball without the proper equipment the ref imho stop the play correctly and did what the quote says...

the quote has nothing to do with your point ... that part is talking about after the ref needed to stop play to give a yellow... which he didn't need to do, bcoz he must stop play if a player loses equipment

I'm sorry bmpv666 but you're talking a load of rubbish.

you can't touch the ball without a boot on. Deco 2 seasons ago was sent off because of that. Somebody stepped on his shoe and it came off. He passed the ball shoeless and got his second yellow ans was gone.

That's the rule buddy.

rsnjg--there goes the brits making up more excuses.

Parra Power---that god, nobody talks about the goal that was dissalowed (it went in). Nobody talks about the penalty on Gomes.

The English are martyrs. Poor guys they suffer so much.

maybe portugal's got a different interpretation of the rules and it is considered dangerous play..... but from the interpretation that i learnt it would be required for him to leave the field of play :O

EDIT: btw i didnt notice the incident because it was early in the game, and that means early in the morning here.... and i wasnt really awakye yet :O
