Rumor - No We9:i For Usa

I think personally Konami will abandon the US market altogether with Winning Eleven on any platform, next gen. or otherwise.

You have to see the hate for the North American market on the Japanese gaming boards which unlike ours, are frequented by developers and programmers from the many Japanese software houses. They get really involved in their gaming community and implement a lot of patches for RPGs just out of popular requests on some of the major forums. Some staff from Konami were really, really dissing the North American market and the XBox 360 saying they weren't going out of their way to convert many titles for the machine. Apparently the dog heads this year in the WE/PES title came from a poll on one of the major gaming forums about what special heads the gamers would like this year. Another 9% of the votes swinging one way would have seen big cats (lions, tigers, etc.) and 12% voted for fish-heads!!! The Japanese are very into their RPGs and have online clans represented by animals, hence last years inclusion of the horse heads, eagle heads, etc.

They release PES for the European market as it's their big cash-cow to fund a lot of the specialist RPG titles. Obviously this also explains why the Japanese market can get 4 versions of the soccer title in one year while Europe simply gets one port. They released WE7:I in the USA as they thought it would have the same impact (and bring in the same money) as PES in Europe but they didn't figure that the gaming community here isn't driven by forums and online communities, but advertising.

Unless somebody figures out how to make the European/Asian games play on the PS3/XBox 360, North America will have no more Konami soccer titles to play indefinitely.

The problem with canada, and usa, is that they are the only two countries on earth where soccer isnt in the top 4 most popular sports in the country.

Still, our market is big enough if Konami would actually pull their thumb out of their ass. 22.5 million kids registered in soccer leagues every year along with another 8.2 million adults.

FIFA sells pretty well here because of ignorance. How can Konami sell something they don't advertise? Every kid I know who plays soccer (and I know a lot because I coach the sport for a living) has a soccer game for either their PC or console but if I hadn't told them about Winning Eleven, they'd never have heard of it. Konami do ZERO marketing here.

you'd be surprised actually. i don't know for sure but soccer, in canada, is actually quite popular. There are 2 new stadiums being built in Vancouver and Toronto specifically for soccer. It's getting more and more popular every year. Just because our national team sucks and we never qualify for the world cup, doesn't mean canadians aren't footie fans ;)

what about Mexico? Don't forget that they now don't get a WE this year either.

well, you could be right about top 4. i don't have any numbers to back it up, but i'm sure it's pretty close to top 4.
As far as seeing matches on tv, we get EPL games every saturday on Sportsnet. Sportsnet also carries some Serie A and La Liga matches as well. Usually they are on at odd hours though due to the time difference. Might be tough to see games in Nova Scotia though.

Hey Wolff,
I'm a guy who has been playing WE in the US for the past couple years. Do you think he was just talking about a nextgen version of WE not coming to the US market this year? It would seem to make sense in light of the context of nextgen discussion. Maybe?

Also, do you think that, considering their incompetence with marketing, he actually has no idea what he is talking about?

Hopefully this is bogus seeing how it has been officially announced as coming to the States this year.

I hope to crap that he got the wrong end of the pineapple to be honest!

He did specifically say no more Konami soccer titles released for North America "on any platform" until a conversion from the PS3.

I hope that he just lost something in translation though as the guy from Konami America was Japanese.

I honestly think he was misunderstood and that WE9I will be released as scheduled. What he probably meant is that we should'nt expect WE10 until 2007 on next gen only. Which is no different from usual procedures.

Konami would have to put out a special statement announcing that they cancelled WE9I, since they already announced it was coming.

Everybody really needs to stop believing everything Wolf says without question. Let's gather up all the facts before we start saying F Konami.

Funny... didn't WE just get a nomination at that video game awards on spike tv. So it's crap if Konami are saying it's not noticed over here in North America. I live in Toronto Canada and the game is well known here. Phat shout out to Deluxxe on the west coast I also watch Sportsnet every Saturday morning dawg. Used to be one match now there's three. Peace.

Here's what they wrote on pesinsight.com.

"Winning Eleven 9 WILL be Released In America

Following up to yesterdays article regarding the release of Winning Eleven 9 International (or lack of), we can confirm this is untrue. Despite what 'The Wolf' may of heard on television in the States, Konami have confirmed that 'WE will be released in the US'."

Wolf, what's going on with you? Please get your facts straight before you open a thread like this.

heh. the only crappy thing about being in vancouver is you gotta get up super early on saturdays to catch the EPL games. I think the first one starts at 4am! They used to repeat them on Sportsnet Pacific but they haven't for a long time.
Sometimes i stay up to watch the first one but it's pretty hard after a night of partyin when the entire room is spinning like a top.

Your thread title before I changed it said "CONFIRMED!" So maybe you can see why a few people were mislead.
