As a naive 7-10 year old American at the time I never understood what was going on in the Balkans at the time and no one had ever required it part of my time to completely understand. "Ethnic cleansing" "Serbs" and "NATO" is all ever really took from it.
So anyway.
What the ****. People being massacred in 1995 in a European country while the international community sat around and half-assed helped. What the **** is wrong with this world? We're doing it now in Darfur, and during the same time we did it in Rwanda, but seriously--what the hell? It boggles my mind that perpetrators of these things are still alive and around.
Growing up I always thought "Oh, the Holocaust. That was back then, back then, back then...things are different now." It's a sad day when I've come to the realization that we're all just as ****ed up on that level--oh, not just the Africans, not just the Arabs, the Europeans and Americans too.
So anyway, I just finished the book in a one night setting and I don't expect to be sleeping.
