hey i'm wondering if you guys can help me out...

i'm thinking about selling my PS2 with everything i got on it(2 mem.cards,online adap.) and buying a graphics card for my comp. so i can play games on the comp. instead....


now what card do u guys think i should get? i saw a Raedon 9800? it was priced at $400 ,so does anyone here have that card? if so then can you post some screenshots of PES so i can see how the game would look like(with patches installed)...


also if u need to know my comp. specs...well i'm not much into computers so can u tell me where to find out my specs?

Can't say if that card is worth getting without knowing your PC specs - could be a major bottleneck otherwise. It's a good card though, and one of the best on the market, but if your PC is too low a spec it'll be a waste of money.

As to where to find your specs, where did you get your PC? If it was bought as a complete package then it will be on the paperwork somewhere. Also, try right clicking on 'My Computer>Properties' and see what it says on the 'General' tab - usually it tells you there what CPU and RAM you have.

Oh, and screenshots really won't tell you much about a graphics cards performance. Uncompressed TIFFs compared side by side may show you some difference, but even then this has little relavance on how the card will work with your system.

I have Microsoft Windows ME
Pentium 3
127 omb RAM

OK - forget the 9800. I would be extremely sceptical of you being able to run this game. Your PC is simply not going to be up to it, even with a decent graphics card.

You don't say what speed your CPU is, but i'm guessing it's not much over 1ghz (if that). You need ATLEAST a 1.5 ghz to run this game properly, but even that's pushing it. You'll need to upgrade your whole system (CPU, mnotherboard, RAM, graphics card), and the money from selling your PS2 won't cover that.

Sinply sticking a fancy graphics card in your PC as it stands won't work - you system won't even begin to tap into it's power.

thanx for the advice... but i was just gonna use the money from the PS2 along with some money i got(big settlement check..lol) so basically would it be better to upgrade or how about buying myself a labtop that i'll only use for gaming purposes?

if you buy a laptop, then be sure it hasnt got a noname graphics-chip with shared memory... i would buy one with ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 but i dont know how the game works on a laptop..

i would recommend you to buy (instead the laptop):
new mainboard
new processor (>2400Mhz)
new graphiccard (minimum geforce 4 ti or Ati radeon 9600)
more memory (512 would be optimal)
7200UpM harddisk
upgrade to windows xp

I'd stay away from laptops if you only really want it for gaming. Nothing will compete with a well put together desktop. Just make sure you do some research and buy the right components.

It really will pay to do your research - look into what brands are best, and how they will all work together. Worst thing you can do is to go into any old PC shop and buy whatever takes your fancy. If you want a solid reliable system, it takes time and effort. And if you've never put a PC together yourself, you might want to consider asking somebody to help you, as it can be a bit daunting. Plenty of websites on the subject though.

ok thankx alot guys i really appreciate your help... i will be looking into buying a new computer...have you guys heard about "alienware" i think thats the name of the comp. anyway i've seen at at bestbuys and the graphics look good, but like you said i will research a little more before buying any computer....

Alienware are superb but expensive-ish as they include 24hr support and loads of good stuff

Yeah, Alienware are a good company i've heard, but as Jim says they are expensive. They certainly make powerful gaming PC's. You'd save hundreds by building it yourself, but if money isn't an option and you feel more comfortable buying a ready made PC, then Alienware are a pretty safe bet.
