Serie A: AS Roma v. Juventus F.C. [P+R]

modena_10

Senior Squad
Serie A Week 12
v.

Venue: Stadio Olimpico in Rome

Juventus lead the Scudetto race by a slim two points and with Milan breathing down their necks, they need to produce results. Entering the hostile Stadio Olimpico will be a tough task for Capello and his men but anything less than 3 points will be a disappointment.

Roma have been coming on as of late, stringing together some wins and re-asserting themselves in the top half of the table after a less than enviable start. Points are needed for Roma to slow down Juventus and continue to open the Scudetto race. It's safe to say most of Italy will be cheering for the giallorossi.

Not much needs to be said about the storylines that preceed a game like this. The tension is high. Players are motivated, intense and prepared for another classic encounter. Make your predictions and come Saturday, game talk and results. Do your thing gentlemen.

Serie A Week 12 - 19/11/05 (19.30 UK)
Roma - Juventus

-----------------------------------------------------------
It is always a heated encounter when Roma play Juventus and this match is set to be no exception as both sides have already declared verbal warfare on the other. Francesco Totti announced his dislike of former teammate Emerson and ex-Roma Coach Fabio Capello claiming that they "are not real men" for leaving the Giallorossi and then Lilian Thuram countered with a subtle dig at the opposition’s tendency to lose their head. This war of words has continued to escalate through repeated counter-attacks meaning that both teams will be going all out when they finally meet at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday evening.

With former Roma heroes like Emerson and Capello – who both won Lo Scudetto in the capital - in their ranks, the Bianconeri were always going to relish the chance to put one over on Roma, but this time the feeling will be more than mutual. The Giallorossi will surely see Juve as at least partly responsible for the Antonio Cassano fiasco due to their constant rumour stirring during the summer. After the problems that situation has caused they must see nothing as being more desirable than getting the win which could see La Vecchia Signora knocked off the top of the table for the first time this season.

They may once again have to do this without outcast Cassano, but their only other absentee is Christian Chivu as he is still suspended after being sent-off against Ascoli. Juve are shy of long-term injury victims Gianluigi Buffon, Alessandro Birindelli, Jonathan Zebina and Ruben Olivera. To add to their problems, the in-form Adrian Mutu will also have to watch this match from the treatment room.

Roma (probable): Doni; Panucci, Kuffour, Mexes, Cufrè; Perrotta, De Rossi; Mancini, Totti, Taddei; Montella

Juventus (probable): Abbiati; Zambrotta, Thuram, Cannavaro, Chiellini; Camoranesi, Emerson, Vieira, Nedved; Trezeguet, Ibrahimovic

that's an awesome photograph though

really looking forward to this game, a lot of pre-match sledging

a lot of juve's players are coming off international duty, which is going to be tough

i'll be happy with any combination of results between this and the fiore-milan game which keeps juve on top

YELLOW CARD - Sarcasm
I say 2-1 to Juve. Ibrahimovic x2 & Totti

Hopefully someone will spit at or stamp on Totti for a change.

Cassano dropped for Juve clash
Friday 18 November, 2005
Despite hinting that he’d bring him out of the cold for tomorrow’s match with Juventus, Luciano Spalletti has left Antonio Cassano at home again.

The Roma starlet has been frozen out of the squad for most of the season due to a contract dispute and there were reports he’d make his comeback against the club he is expected to join next term.

However, Cassano’s name does not feature in the squad list for Saturday’s big game in Serie A against Juve at the Stadio Olimpico.

The ex-Bari man, who cost £20m in 2001, has not played in a Giallorossi jersey since October 2, when he lasted the entire 90 minutes against Siena.

He has recovered from an ankle injury, scoring a brace in a test with the Roma youth squad last week, so the refusal to bring him along is purely a disciplinary one.

Coach Spalletti had teased the Press today with his statements. “I will only decide whether or not to call up Cassano for the Juve game at the end of training today.”

Cristian Chivu is the other absentee, as he is both suspended and picked up an injury on international duty with Romania.

Vincenzo Montella is again expected to start upfront, supported by the trio of Francesco Totti, Rodrigo Taddei and Amantino Mancini.

Roma squad: Alvarez, Mancini, Aquilani, Bovo, Cufre, Curci, Dacourt, De Rossi, Doni, Eleftheropoulos, Mexes, Kharja, Kuffour, Montella, Nonda, Panucci, Perrotta, Taddei, Tommasi, Totti

no thats not what he meant.

"Playing Roma is like playing Ascoli," he added. "There are no easy games in Italian football, but I certainly won’t be losing any sleep tonight."

I do not liek Zlatan's comments, that type of arrogance is stupid and unnecessary.

I am hopinh for huge Juve performance, unleash Vieira on Totti's arse.

If Roma win and like Totti scores winner, I am prepared to cop it on the chin following my Totti sentiments.

However, that is extremely unlikely, you know, Juve, having the best team in the country and all. :hump:
