Oh, actually where I live we have the same thing, once you get 18 you'll be enlisted, and a few years later you have to do mandatory service for like 9 months. I got a letter in 2006, but haven't heard back from them yet, luckily... But absolutely everyone here thinks it is pointless and a waste of time, only a few of my friends who have been there think it's useful, trains your body, your mind etc you know. But I really think this kind of thing should be voluntary, but this is getting kind of offtopic already.

Make America Great Again
USA is an all volunteer military. I signed up for at least 3 years.

E: Although I guess yeah I did register for the selective service at 18. You know, back then I was so scared of getting drafted when the Iraq War started that I wrote my Senators saying that they better not vote to institute a draft. Kinda funny what a difference a decade makes.

I remember you talking about considering joining the army. Good luck with it. Hopefully you won't have to do any real fighting.

The military why. :-(

I wasted two years of my life due to conscription and have to serve pretty much two weeks a year for a decade after that. Its definitely different in the States but found it an absolute waste of time, with no appreciation.

Hope it works out for you, all the best.

The news really blew the possible draft out of proportion during that time, but I for one was never worried about such things. Anyhow, I hope it works out for you, and good luck. With a law degree and army training, I believe that opens the doors for working in any government agency.
