My brother pinpoints to De Niro's decline as an actor to Heat......I don't know if I agree with 'em, but he sure has lost it big time, or maybe just given up, eh? The stories of him painstakingly mulling over a script for months on end when he was younger are just moving and inspiring. He use to be selective to a high degree and always put the quality of the work over paycheck, but now,,,,,,,,,,,,it looks like he's just said "**** IT! I'm cashing in on my years of hard work and paltry pay."

I don't know if I blame 'em, but I sure do hold 'em in less honour and regard, thas for sure.

Are you actually planning on voting?

So far, the results stand as follows, with still more than a day to go.

Robert DeNiro - 13 votes
Kevin Spacey - 8 votes
Daniel Day Lewis - 7 votes
Edward Norton - 6 votes
Hugh Grant - 2 votes

DeNiro well ahead and likely to qualify, though he could still be caught, and Spacey, Day Lewis and Norton all fighting it out for that second spot, as expected. Surprisng two votes for Hugh Grant who I didnt expect to get any.

Starting XI
De Niro, Spacey

Very tough call on Norton vs. Spacey

Unfortunately for them, they got into a group with a no-brainer like Bobby D.

Andreas

Senior Squad
Robert De Niro (with no doubt in my mind)
Edward Norton

(Very close between Norton and Spacey, but I find Norton's performances and movies slightly better)

OK, voting has now closed and the final results of this group are as follows.

Robert DeNiro - 18 votes
Kevin Spacey - 11 votes
Edward Norton - 10 votes
Daniel Day Lewis - 8 votes
Hugh Grant - 3 votes

DeNiro really pulled away there at the end showing him as another genuine contender for the tournament and Spacey just got enough support to hold his ground and take him into second place, with Norton leapfrogging Day Lewis to only just miss out.

It's a shame to see both Day Lewis and Norton go out so early.

fair results, although I think it's kinda laughable that Norton gets more votes than DDL ...I know he's been in some "cooler" and more popular films, but he's in no way more talented. :|

I dont know - he tends to elevate what would be just another "cool movie" into something a lot classier. Alot of the great British theatre actors (Gambon, Hurt, McKellen etc) have gone on record saying that they think he is the best actor working today.

Personally I would agree with you - I think Daniel Day Lewis is just brimming with natural talent and I love the way he is so selective with his roles and puts so much into every one - but I can understand Norton's popularity also.

For me, the most laughable thing is that Grant got three more votes than he should have done.

Actors that missed out include Carlos Lemmon, Walter Matthou, Peter O'Toole, Clark Gable, Charles Laughton, Robert Mitchum, Guy Pearce, Alec Guiness, Orson Welles, Clint Eastwood, Harvey Keitel etc etc.

Nominations include the likes of Hugh Grant, Keannu Reeves etc. You've got to wonder.

Though on the whole I would say that the nominations are very good.

haha I didn't even notice that Keannu Reeves got nominated.. isn't he one of the guys people tend to use as an example when talking about BAD acting!?
