Shearer charged by UEFA ...

for those who saw the action of Newcastle v Internazionale .. you know what this is about ..

Basically Shearer elbowed cannavaro

I think it's just really petty ...Alan might get three matches for something that was really nothing ...
Cannavaro fouled Shearer almost every time they got near during the match, and on that particular incident he was pushinghim and tugging away ...

what do you people think ? is my opinion out of hand coz it's biased ? or am I right?

interesting stat came up during the match

Alan Shearer suffered 11 fouls

that pretty much sums up

well when ur the best player in a team, u should pretty much expect to get fouled plenty of times especially during European encounters.

Elbowing and punching isnt the solution....

but 3 matches is too harsh...

shame to see what Alan did, he could have easily joined Bellamy for an early bath for that, he usually keps his coll but he lost it a bit that time:confused:

To be honest I think that to say that "he suffered so many fouls" is irrelevant. Big and important players are always target of fouls and so. Zidane, Beckham, Ruud and so many others suffer these kinds of things. I didn't see the elbow incident on TV, but if Shearer really did elbow him, then unfortunately rules are rules.....

yeah
but in this case he wasn't trying to deck him ... happened as he was tussling away from canna's shirt pulling

But I think the punishment is too harsh...
He was disturbed by Cannavaro the whole of the game...
Cannavaro was seen hugging Shearer as if Shearer was his wife...
This surely will lead to some unhappiness between the two..............

doesn't matter who u are, u dont deserve it.

frustration is gonna more then creep in when it happens.

Yash, what if this happened to Del Piero ... he'd be in the same position ... so would u think your player is innocent. :)

well rules are rules... Davids and Zidane were suspended for 3 matches couple of seasons back (Zidane for headbutting a player...and Davids for hitting someone).

Del Piero on the other hand is subject to tens and thousands of fouls but doesnt lose his temper . Davids is a more aggressive player who retaliates.

that's coz ... he dives to the floor and gets lousy free kicks.

more on the shearer incident ....
to tell you more
the referee actually SAW the incident .... gave a free kick to Inter, gave Alan a telling off ... and that's it no card were shown ... so I don't understand why UEFA come and poke their noses in

It was a swing of the elbow which CONNECTED to Cannavaro's head. That is, in effect, an elbowing offence and so Shearer deserves a red card. Since the referee did not present him the card, it will be down to Uefa to enforce a suspension, a probable 3 match ban. Those are the rules, and you don't like them, but you've got to follow them.

well heres more.....even the Referee admits that he should have been sent off...so now theres nothing really left to argue about is there ?

11/29/2002. Referee Stephane Bre has admitted that he made a mistake and should have sent off Alan Shearer during Inter Milan's 4-1 win away to Newcastle United on Wednesday.

Shearer has been charged by UEFA for an elbowing incident on Fabio Cannavaro and is likely to be hit by a three match ban.

Bre sent off Craig Bellamy in the same match after just six minutes and will also have a three match ban.

Bre told The Sun: "I didn't get a clear view of the Shearer incident but I've talked to friends who saw it on TV.

"They told me Shearer used his elbow and, if what they described gives the true picture, I'd have had to send him off, too."

shearer didn't look at cannavaro and try and deck him, it happened during jostling between the 2. And it wasn't done in malice towards Cannavaro, and if the ref saw waht happened, and gave a free kick to Inter the other way, and did give Alan a talk, then it should be left there. UEFA are trying to hard to police misconduct, but it's not like Shearer is a bruiser and does this all the time, UEFA needs to leave calls on the field, and review things that are done with violent intentions, overturn a bad red card call, not create more and actually HURT the quality and class of the game. They KNOW they've destroyed Newcastle's Champions League run if they ban Shearer for 3 matches. OOO Excellent press for UEFA (united european fruits association).

anyways, HOWAY THE LADS

so ur saying that Hitting out and punching is better than diving ?

common man see the light... ur always being biased ....i bet if it was and non-mewcastle player u'd be one of the first people advocating a ban.

try looking at it from a neutral point of view...

I defenetly do ...
if you're gonna be a wimp and play like a real Carlos*ass that's your problem. but you shouldn't get away with it ... as far as I'm concerned ... since Shearer has now got a 2 match ban (that's official) I wish he would have turned around and and punched Cannavaro's teeth out. He would probably have got the same ban. but would would have been punished rightfuly

I'm not being biased, I only stand out loud for this incident coz it touches me and my feelings personaly. UEFA are a comedy stock. By banning Shearer they simply encourage players like you have at Inter that get their way.
everytime an italian team is involved things are iffy and controversial ... it's no coincidence
as I've said be4 .. I don't mind losing ... I just can't stand being cheated.

cannavarro himself is responsible for being hit. if he only didn't put his head there when shearer was throwing the elbow the incident won't have happened;)

but seriously, i think if the red card was shown on the field it wud have been okay. but digging up incidents after the match aint too smart. how many times defenders get away pulling shirts off the back of strikers in the penalty box! no one gives a penalty after the match. so why pick on one kind of foul play through video evidence and leave others! anyway if newcastle r without both shearer and bellamy it's bad news for the CL games in general.:kader:

I just saw it today, and he fully deserves his ban. What he did was as bad as what Bellamy did, and you can't blame Cannavaro because if you can wind someone up and get them off their game then it's part of the game. You just have to look at Dennis Rodman in the NBA.
