In FIFA 2005 (especially on world class), the main way to score was on through balls that led to breakaways. Most shots from 15-30 yards out were repeatedly saved by superman goalies, even the shots that seemed destined to hit the top corner with power. Now obviously this needs to be improved. What I suggest is a new system for distance shooting. In 05, it was very easy to shoot on target from 25 yards out and it would usually be a hard shot, but it would almost always be miraculously saved. In 06, it should be harder to hit the net from distance, most likely by implementing a different speed for your shot meter to go up. The closer you are to the net, the faster the meter should go up, and if you are farther out, it should go up slower, allowing defenders more time to tackle/deflect shots. If you shoot from distance and you don't hold the shot long enough, then it will be a weak shot that might just be one that rolls to the keeper. However, if you find the space and power a good shot (ala Gerrard) then you'll be rewarded with a hard, on target shot. This also makes it seem more realistic, because you obviously need to hit the ball harder and more accurately from distance in a real match, so why not in FIFA?
The part that needs to change MORE from FIFA 05 is goalkeeping. If the system I recommended is created, then we can't have keepers repeatedly denying brilliant scorching shots left and right. Make it realistic. If the keeper can't get to it, he can't get to it. Don't have him making a cross-country flight from one side of the net to the other every time to avoid a 30 yard strike.
Any thoughts?
