Shooting...

Well FIFA2003 wasn't as good as I expected, but I play it a lot anyway.

I find one thing very annoyning though, 95% of the shots intend to miss the target. Often they are wide, sometimes high and sometimes high and wide. Feels like there's only three angels to shot the ball in, straight ahead, slightly to the left or slightly to the right.

Is there a way to change this by altering the ini file?

Now I'm off to continue my season with Chelsea! :kader:

wow.. you mean this years shooting model is not as easy as always.. how is that a bad thing? Frustrating yes... but isnt it frustrating when you miss the goal by 2 inches in real life..

Well, but a player like David Beckham doesn't miss the goal from 20 yards 8 out of 8 times in a game, but in FIFA2003 he does. At least at my place, is there something I can do about this or not?

i dont think he misses either, since you are controling him.. you miss it.. it just takes practice and even then it will not always go in..

i have a question about shooting - is it possible to shoot strongly but not up in the air? i thing the power of a shot determines its height. or is there a possibility to shoot sharp and low together?

shooting

yes to one of the replies , scoring is harder. but as the guy says even with Beckham who I'll take as read has a 10 out 10 for shooting , missed 8 out of 8 shots. SCRIPTING : a word that has come up a lot , I thought it was for AI teams and goes when you have control of the team. I hope I am wrong and there will be plenty who will tell me so if I am. But I take Scripting to mean that you don't have total control of shots , and that is why as a guy in another topic said that you will never be able to score goals like they do in WE6 or PES2 . You don't have full control of the ball. Some of the goals I have seen in the ISS site I would doubt if you could score then in FIFA2003.
Love it if I am wrong , here's hoping!

That was my actuall question, is there a way to controll (aim) the shot? Or do I have to edit the .ini file in order to hit the target? What should I edit in the ini file?

Naah, as far as I'm concerned that isn't possible. If you power up fullt the shot will be really high. Sucks, doesn't it?

power up

The Power bar for me ( not as young as I used to be ) is a bit to fast in shooting at freekicks and corners. I know its not meant to be easy , but in real life even I can throw in a decent freekick and corner. I think it would be better if the power bars were a wee bit slower. then you would be able to pick as Brucey say " Top Middle or bottom .

i'm tired of everyone whining about how hard it is to score.. I was getting tired of not having to work to score.. I am enjoying this shooting system even if it frustrating when you miss the target.. but get over it..

You can alter the powerbar speed in your FIFA ini file!

Ehem, I never said it was hard to score...

I might have misunderstood, but about a month ago I read some news about FIFA 2003 saying that people like Thierry Henry and Michael Owen would just "pass" the ball into the corner instead of just blasting a shot on goal hoping to score. The way I understood it, players would have different shooting styles. This was both on free kicks and when shooting regulary. Is this so in the full game? Can't say I have seen it in the demo...

i can there are several "wanna-be-hardcore" guys who say this new shooting model is great, and several others who think it is hard to score. i am in the middle because i have not found answer to my question: how the *uck the shooting works? i know there are power sliders and think i must stop it at the last green field to shoot best where i aim. but am i able to aim? i know i can aim left and right, but can a player aim upper left, lower right etc? i think the game generates some of the predefined shots and player has a very little control over the aim. anyone can explain this model ïn details? if there is no control of aiming, that case shooting suckz. if there is one but is hard, than it rocks. but i have not found the answer myself. thanks everyone who solved this secret. :crazyboy:

To aim at the goal you have to push one of 8 directions. The forward facing directions will shoot at the top of the goal, the neutral directions will shoot at the middle of the goal and the backwards directions will shoot at the bottom of the goal. Play a few penalty competitions to understand it better. As always it depends on a lot of other things too though.

so for more accurate shooting, here are a few tips i've come up with from my playing experience so far..

1) don't shoot while running, this makes it hard to be accurate
2) don't shoot from really wide as you have hardly anything to aim at
3) don't shoot with the ball under your feet, try to tap it ahead of you using the skill button or tapping the through pass button
4) keep the power bar relative to your position on the pitch, the full green is only really needed for a 40 yarder

It's a bit like real football.. finally
but yeah it does seem like its way too easy to miss.. i'm sure practice will make perfect.

Now if only I could work out how to head the damn ball and curl my damn shots!!

The 4 tips you give are all true, but the shooting model you describe is the old one, the one used back in FIFA 98, 99 and maybe even 2000. That was the best shooting model ever, it was simple to learn and gave you freedom to aim at any corner of the net. This new shooting model is really bad in comparission (in my opinion). Sometimes (very few times) my player shoots low and powerfull shots, but there doesn't seem to be a way to control this. I did not press the backwards button to shoot like this those few times. And whenever I try to aim like in FIFA 98 the shot goes wide.

right.
sometimes i shot low even when i dont mean it.
However, now the general direction decides which direction ur shot goes. Since I'm using the 2 analog stick, I have been pushin the right stick ard in all directions as well and sad to say, it hardly explains the shooting. Curling and height seemed impossible to control..

I think you should be able to control the ball while it's flying. Like direction. After you shoot, it goes to ball cam and you press directional buttons to steer the ball. This all happens in real time so it's not as easy at it sounds. That would be the best. That's what I would make it to be.
