Sports Interactive & SEGA® Europe Ltd. can today announce that Football Manager™ 2010 for PC and Apple Macintosh, and Football Manager™ Handheld 2010 for Sony PSP will be released on October 30th.

Football Manager 2009 is the most successful in the Football Manager series to date, clocking up 22 weeks at No.1 in the UK (PC charts) and selling in excess of 1 million copies worldwide, as well as being voted the 2nd best video game of all time in a recent Radio 1 poll.

According to data gathered from Football Manager 2009, people played the game for an average of 240 hours each and developer Sports Interactive has spent the last year working closely with consumers and the Football Manager community to implement key improvements to this year's game. Football Manager 2010 features new tools and changes across the board including some big additions to improve ease of use, navigation and feedback from the game with the introduction of a brand new match tactics system, the debut of a Match Analysis tool, a completely new look and new User Interface among other features.

"We have worked very hard with the Football Manager community to target not only the areas of the game that needed re-working but also what we could add to improve what's already there. We've also conducted extensive usability studies which has led us to overhaul the whole presentation of the game, which we're really excited about," said Miles Jacobson, Studio Director at Sports Interactive. "There has been a lot of polish to existing areas of the game but it's also driven us to introduce changes to answer some of the feedback. We're very confident that having done that we will deliver the very best Football Manager to date in October."

The introduction of a Tactics Creator makes it easier to instruct the team to play the way the manager wants, alongside the introduction of touchline 'shouts' and quick tactic changes for instantly altering your team's playing style during the match. Working with coaches from various levels of football, alongside some of the Football Manager communities most respected independent tacticians, the game now has an extensive array of pre-set tactical options allowing the user to select a player's role in the team (such as 'Ball winning midfielder' or 'Deep lying playmaker'), however the option to use the old 'slider' controls remains.

Feedback from matches has been improved to give the user better insight into where their team is going wrong, or right. A new Match Analysis tool lets players see where shots, passes, crosses, headers, tackles, fouls and interceptions have been made on the field for all players on the pitch. Managers can view this analysis both live in-game and post match, allowing them to pinpoint the strengths and weaknesses of both their team and their opponent's and adjust their tactics accordingly.

Football Manager 2010 features a brand new User Interface, with a light and a dark skin to choose from as part of a vibrant new look and has undergone a complete navigational overhaul. The side bar navigation of previous years has been replaced by an intuitive tab system at the top of the screen, making Football Manager's famed depth easier to navigate and will make the game more accessible to new players.

A brand new Data Editor will allow the addition of new divisions to existing leagues and of entirely new leagues as well as making it easier than ever to keep the game up to date, and do so for free. The delivery of information to the manager has been refined with users now able to sign up to the News Centre, an in-game subscription based newspaper that lets you get the news that you want about the football world and filter out the stories that you do not need, making the football world as immersive as you want it to be.

Following the debut of a 3D match view in Football Manager 2009, this year's release sees a revamp with improved AI, over 100 new animations for the 3D pitch view, new stadiums, crowds, realistic pitch degradation and better lighting, creating an even more realistic match experience.

Further new features will be announced via a series of blogs in the months leading up to the game's October 30th release date which will ensure that Football Manager retains its position as the most realistic, most played, highest reviewed and best selling football management simulation in the world.

The usual story. A couple of new features, but it's mostly more of the same if you ask me.

Well, it sounds good. I saw this Tactics Creator thing on FM Live, and if it's as good as it looks, I'm excited. It really looks awesome from what I saw, and I've always had problems getting players to act like I wanted them to.

Skin overhaul is just meh. I hate getting used to stuff like that. The match analysis could be very useful and I would love it if the news world actually felt anything like it does in real life. The transfer stories in 09 was a waste of time.

I like keeping my game updated with the editor, so any improvements to it is also welcome.

The touchline shouts sounds like it would just force me to tinker with tactics all the time during the game.

Honestly, I'll probably buy the game, even if it will be glitchy as hell.

average. Hope the 3D engine starts getting bit more appealing every year and the new skin looks worse than the 08 and 09 ones (if thats even possible) The tactics wizard is ok I guess, tho nothing much there for those with prev fm game( s) experience.

The demo is out. Go to mirrorfootball (Zlatan's post above mine).

Hasn't finished so I haven't played it yet. Not as excited as I was with last year's though, hoping to be proven wrong.

I've played a few hours now. The tactics creator looks alright, the touchline shouts seem pretty pointless, have only played one match, but didn't see much use in them. Quite pissed that the tactics creator and shouts aren't compatible with the old sliders. You can change your created tactic into the sliders form, but I dunno how faithful it remains to your vision. I haven't been able to get the players to do exactly what I want, but that's always been true, I'll see if this changes aftyer some fiddling. I love the players roles, though, and they work to an extent, really looking forward to try out a bunch of formations.

There's more focus on tactics it seems, which is why it baffles me that you can't use the creator as a mere template and then fiddle around to make it perfect, while mainting the ability to keep using the 'easy-tactics' and touchline crap. I hope they can change this in the next version, it'd be pretty perfect in terms of tactics then.

Most of the players I've seen seem much worse in this version. Granted I've mostly seen Chelsea and sme transfer prospects, but I'm shocked at how bad they seem to be. I might be biased, but even the best players seem severely underrated. The top guys at the other big clubs seem pretty weaker, too, but the Spanish league looks very strong. Meh.

Transfers are harder I suppose and transfer prospects are bare.

I stupidly switched Wilkins and Demichelis around in their roles. Don't do that. Your assman MUST be a club veteran or his advice will be ****ty. I miss being able to have 2 assmen.

I hate the skin, it's giving me a headache and is harder to use. I'm glad the news subscription tihng doesn't pop up all the time, but it I'm not finding much use for it.

I'm also hit with a pre-existing injury crisis. **** this ****.

All in all I'm not very impressed, I mean, I haven't felt like any of the changes they've made have really improved the game, but once I get used to the skin and the way the AI thinks a bit more, it could be very enjoyable.

The demo is fantastic, this is by far the best FM to date. The tactics are much more intelligent and the way your team plays is realistic to your instructions. I can see me getting hooked again.

I only took a very short look at it. I'm going to give it a real go once I get a break from uni and work.

'acquired' the game a couple of days ago, I must say it takes some time to get used to it but it's pretty decent I think.

Agreed. I found it a bit less intuitive than the previous versions to begin with. But now I've become used to it and honestly, I think this is the best FM release in a loooooong time. So far this game has been a real joy to play!

Yeah, the new interface takes a little getting used to but I think it's atleast not worse than the previous interface.
The new skin is a little to bright for me though.

I still haven't decided wheter I like this year's FM or not. Still have to play it a little more, I think.

There's a dark version in the game. I came to the conclussion that the best tactic is the one you spend time on, you must tweak each player. Use the attribute helper in the player roles and also tweak each of the player options by using the in-game suggestion e.g. closing down - stamina, mentallity - decision.

Aye, I use the darker skin, and I must confess it's quite nice after you get used to it, and I say this honestly because I really didn't like the new interface at first...
