download both

you need them both, if you want the English version. Download the main utility, FCDB XP v2, and the FCDB XP V2 English Pack as well. Install the main one and then apply the Englosh Pack to it.

hope this helps.

it depends...

Can one edit kits EASILY using this program?

It's easy to swap in/out shirt/boot/etc. images and change btwn kit formats. It does not have much of a pixel editor (i.e. photoshop), so if you want to draw your own or change colors, you'll need a drawing pkg in addition.

I'm sure there are much more informed kit editors who can comment on this better than I...

I wish I could help. I get kinda lost in all of the kit format talk. I wish somebody could write a short primer on the different formats, what patches are needed to use the formats, and the pluses/minuses of of each. It sure would help us non-tecchie types out a lot. Any interest? Or is there already one out there somehwere that I haven't been able to find?

Tell you what, what's your question about XGK 1.0? Maybe I can find the answer for you. I have a feeling if I want to understand the finer points of kit editing, I'm going to have to get my feet wet sometime...

Okay, hopefully, this will help:

So you've got XGK installed. And you've downloaded a kit from jerseyland. In the zip file, you will most likely find two .fsh files, one for the home kit (jhxxxxx.fsh) and one for the away kit (jaxxxxx.fsh). Inside these fsh files are all the pieces of the uniform the game uses to render the players (front shirt, sleeve, back shirt, socks, shorts, etc.). If you're interested, you can view the contents of this file with EAGraph, Sonique FSH, or the FCDB XP Program that this thread refers to. I can't remember where to get them off the top of my head, but if you're interested, let me know. No sense for you trying to hunt them down.

Sorry, I digress. So now you have the .zip with the kits for the team you want to change. Unzip the file to any directory (maybe create one just for downloaded kits?). This will put the two kit files there. Then, start XGK and hit the Select button. Navigate to where you unzipped the kits and select a file. Then hit the Install button, and voila! The old kit should be overwritten! You most likely will repeat this install process to get both the home and away kits installed.

I apologize if you know some of this, I don't mean to be insulting, I just don't want to assume anything. Let me know if this helps or just frustrates you more.

When I installed the XGK 1.0 program, an option came up saying to copy kits.big from the cd rom to a certain folder...data/players on drive C:/ in the EASPORTS folder which I did! I haven' t done anything else with this file!

Now, I did everything you said. I finally even installed those new kits.

The question is, what do I do with that kits.big on C:/ ? IT wasn 't there before installing the XGK 1.0. Should I just ignore it and start the game?

Thanks for all the details..they have been very useful.

Anxiously awaiting your response!

I hope I get this right --

When you install FIFA WC2002, I believe there are some options about what is copied from the CD to the hard drive. I'm guessing you didn't do a complete install, so it didn't copy certain files to the hard drive. The kits.big file contains all of the kits (and some other files, it looks like too) that the game uses. So, in a nutshell: the .big file is a collection of .fsh files, which are collections of images.

I didn't get that option when I installed XGK (I just did it today to answer the above question), but I have all of the WC2002 files from the CD installed to my hard drive. My guess is XGK was smart enough to know it needs to install the .fsh files (the kits) into this .big file, and it can't do so on the CD. So XGK is nice enough to prompt you to copy it.

You should leave it on your hard drive, this is where the game will find the modified kits. If you delete it, it will probably look for the kits.big file on the CD and revert to the default kits.

Yeah yeah I understand completely what u are saying: This is what I got when I installed the game and this is what it says in the manual too.....Select a typical(recommended for most users)COMPACT(fewer files are copied to your hard drive but game runs slower) or CUSTOM(you chooose which components are installed) and I selected TYPICAL ! Anyhow, I ' ll do what ya said and leave it then run the game and see what happens ...THANKS for the help..was very useful! One can just imagine how far back I was if I did not know any of this stuff.

When I install the kit a message comes up saying incorrect Path File!

i MADE UP a new folder into which the downloaded file was unzipped...maybe this is somehow wrong!

SoccerNutUSA

Youth Team
when exactly do you get this message? When you're loading the .fsh? It shouldnt matter where you unzipped the fsh files to, this is just a temporary location. I'm wondering if the kits.big file is in the right place. Can you give me the full path name of this location? It should be something like c:\Program Files\EA Sports\2002 Fifa World Cup TM\data\player\kits.big. At the least, it needs to be in the same folder as the FIFAWC game, because that is where it is expecting it.

It is in the exact folder you mentioned on C:/

I got the message when I tried to install a kit..it said installing kit...and then this mesage popped up!

Also a question about FCDB XP v2.0 How do I open a file using this program...it has been fully installed in English but cannot open any files.

SoccerNutUSA

Youth Team
Oh, yeah, they kinda don't mention that in FCDB XP. You want to open C:\Program Files\EA Sports\2002 Fifa World Cup TM\data\cmn\fe\fcdb_eng.dbi. This is where player information is stored. (the "eng" is the english version)

About that XGK path name..... Hmmm.... Let me experiment and see if I can duplicate the problem...

SoccerNutUSA

Oh, and ONE MORE IMPORTANT THING about FCDB --

This is from Sylvain's web site: If you want to see the kit and head renderings, you need to make sure that player.big, texture.big, kits.big files are in your \data\player\ folder. The modifications will still work, but you'll have no idea what you are modifying!!!

Thanks for that!
ok ok forget about that XGK crap....from where do I get those .big files?
