Yes! And that gave me the answer for both your questions! Duh, I should have thought of this before!!

Copy the files from the CD. Then (and this is the important part), on the Hard drive, make sure you turn the read-only attribute off for those files! That's the problem, I'll bet. XGK needs to be able to write to the kits.big file! That should do it!

OOOHHH yeah!

Ok OK I ; m seeing what u said....IN FCDB , when I clicked on a team..Finland dthen double clicked I got the options of seeing their jerseys but there was only a white screen. I think that when I bring in those files u said, I would get to see it(them) right?

Also there was an import option...would this allow me to import those "NEW KITS" should I try to make them?

Thanks ...a lot of this is making a bit' of sense now! Have to get those .big files though!

Will try that XGK business first cause I' m a lot more familiar with that from the previous experience!

Well the kits load and the game starts but then before they kickoff, it crashes to desktop..no messages or nothing!

Now there is also a kits.big in the work folder . Work is present inside the data/players folder. Both the kits.big are the same and have the archive option checked!

I think I've run out of answers. I've had the crashing problem too, and am not sure why. I think I was trying to use XGK kits without installing the XKG Essential files, but I couldn't swear to it. I do know that when I copied back the original kits.big file (and reset the read only bit again) everything was fine...

I saw the kits.big in the work folder in my setup too, I'm guessing it's a copy or temporary file that XGK uses...

yeah just forgoet about this XGK nonsense...just tell me how to do some kinda editing of kits using FDCB! Thanks for everything!

Here goes:

After the file is loaded, select the team you want to update. Then select Team Properties. Hit the Kits tab. There may be a delay while the kits load.

Then hit the Import button below the kit (home or away) you want to replace. On the popup window, select "Import a FSH file" and click next.

Browse to the fsh files you've already unzipped and pick the one you want to use. Click the Modify kit box and press Next.

Okay, you should be on the Kit Import screen. In the left pane, you'll see all of the kit pieces in the FSH file. Click on Next to see the final visualization. Admire the kit, and then click on Next.

Now you have a choice of either importing the kit into the kits.big file or copy it into the FIFA WC directory, which supposedly overrides the kit in the kits.big file. I've never had any luck with the latter. Import the kit and click Finish. Voila, a new kit is installed!

NOTE: You may run into weird things during game play (weird colors, etc.). Generally this is because the kit format doesn't have all of the necesary files inside the .fsh file. If this happens, go back to FCDB, this time don't import a new kit, select "Modify the current kit". Then, in the upper center of the Kit Modification screen, you'll see a list of predefined types. Leave it at the default option and press Apply. This will make (or modify) the missing (or incorrect) files. This should fix any problems.

Hey, chatterbox, I just found a kit editing tutorial on fifauruguay.com. It looks pretty good, although I admit I haven't read the whole thing yet. But maybe it will give us both a better idea of this whole kit thing...

Your instructions for FCDB are quite clear but I ' ve got a few questions.

u said something about the .fsh files I' ve already unzipped..could these be the XGK(v1.0) format ones?

And the final step is a bit confusing...I want to import using the method u recommended...the first one where we could just import the kits into the kits.big file! I' m not sure I follow this step!

Anyways, in one of the other therads someone said they were ahving the same problem I had been describing to you....usin XGK, the game crashed to desktop when the players came outta the tunnel on the 800 * 600 resolution..It WORKED on the other resolutions..maybe if u still got XGK u could try that out...change the resolution !

y'know, I just saw that same thread about the resolution. I did try changing it, and voila! Success!

About using FCDB to import kits, as long as you keep hitting next, no matter what options you've picked (Final Visualization, Modify Kit), you'll get to a "Last Step" screen. There you'll have a choice of either importing the kit into kits.big or copying the kit into the fifa directory (leaving kits.big alone). Any .fsh files in the root fifa directory are supposed to override other .fsh files found in the .big files, but I personally have never had good luck with this. Does this help, or am I just repeating myself and not answering your question?

Now, about the XGK kits, I've had good success with one slight addition to the above instructions: On the "Kit Creation or Modification" screen (the one that shows the files inside the .fsh), you'll see a drop-down box of predefined types (it's in french, "Type predefini"). Select the "32 bits (Fifa2002, WC2002)" option and press the Apply button. This will correct any .fsh files to make them compatible with plain ol' WC2002. I just triedc this with an XGK England kit, and it worked fine. Hopefully, this will hold true for you too.

If this doesn't make sense, let me know and maybe I can even do some screen shots...

I' m a bit confused about this:

Any .fsh files in the root fifa directory are supposed to override other .fsh files found in the .big files, but I personally have never had good luck with this

Does this mean it does not work or what?

Also what screen is this:
On the "Kit Creation or Modification" screen (the one that shows the files inside the .fsh)

Thanks and it 's good to see that the XGK thing worked for you..haven' t tried it myself!

Yes, it never has worked for me. So if I put a kit (jh01387.fsh, for eample) in the fifa root, when fifa loads it is supposed to use that kit and not the one in the kits.big file. The only reason I know is because several people have included this info in their zipped kits. Perhaps someone out there can correct or verify this?

The "Kit Creation or Modification" screen is in FCDB after you've open the Team Properties, gone to the Kits tab and clicked on one of the Import buttons below the home or away kits. If you've selected to either a) modify the current kit or b) imported a FSH file and clicked the "Modify the kit" checkbox on the "Existing kit import" screen, you'll get to the "Kit Creation or Modification" screen.

Oh, and btw, I just imported a regular old kit and NOW I'm crashing.... ARRRRRRGHHH!!!

Yeah now the option becomes bad cause the next higher resolution over 800 X 600 results in "NOT SO SMOOTH" motion despite turning off the commentary and turning on "ON THE PITCH" I reduced the resolution a bit but, still its still jittery ! Any how its ok at 640 X 480 and there still appears to be no solution to the 800 X 600 problem ! If you uninstall XGK it returns things back to normal if you haven' t installed any kits, but if ya have installed new kits then UNINSTALLINg and reinstalling the GAME IS most likely the only option...I have had to do this a coupla times!

Yeah now FCDB is not as useful cause XGK works..at a lower resolution though!
Also with the Slovenia kits the numbers on the back were messed up..the kits were the whitish ones and u could see the outline of the numbers on the back with white in the middle...the front was ok!

SoccerNutUSA

Youth Team
uuurrhh, nothing is easy is it? One option that may work instead of reinstalling is just copy the kits.big back off of the CD. That will get rid of any installed kits. Not sure what effect this will have if XGK is installed, but might be worth a try if you run into trouble again...

Well the XGK 2.0 kits look a lot nicer than XGK 1.0 so I ' ll probably download and install that! Crumy resolution though! Well, I guess if A works B craps out and if B works, A craps out! Anyhow, thanks for all the help..would'v e never thought of removing that READ ONLY attribute u told me about! And the FCDB XP tutorial was good aswell!
