Smoother framerate on WindowsXP

I dont know whether you guys already know this one but it certainly give me a better framerate playing Fifa2003 and all my other games too.

Actually, I just realized that whatever game I play on my computer, with whatever resolution that I set, Windows XP will only display the game with a refresh rate of 60Hz ! No matter if your monitor and graphic card can support 1024x768x32 at up to 120Hz, it will still display with only 60Hz when you're playing games. It's a bug in Windows XP. I've downloaded the 'remedy' for this and it works! not only I got to see bigger display (with 60Hz, the display is a bit smaller), but I noticed that the games are looking better and I think it has better framerate. I don't know if it has anything to do with the refresh rate, but hey, it looks and feel better to me. :)

Anyone who's using windows XP and not realizing they're experiencing this problem can try one of the tools. I found it at Tom's Hardware. Here's the direct link to that page:

I know, but this is not a driver. And if you only believe Microsoft, you can solve the problem by installing Windows XP Service Pack 1. It's up to you. If you go to the address that I mentioned earlier, you'll get the idea.

HI, following your post Smoother framerate on WindowsXP

Just a couple of questions i am hoping you can help me with.

How do you find out what the MAXIMUM re-fresh rate your monitor can support at a certain screen resolution (say 1-24x768x32) is from windows XP?

What difference does having a refresh rate at 120 Hz than at 60 Hz makje? i.e. is the game smoother? faster? less jerky? does it drain more resrouces?

How do you know, AND how do you fin dout. what the refresh rate f the monitor is during the game??

This is deferent from the refresh rate of the graphics card right?

I their anyway i can find out whether i need this Windows XP Service Pack 1, because my version of Windows is quite new, ony released recently.

In the post sip mentions an NV refresh tool, have you used it, is it any good? how do i get it?

My System.
P4 1.7Ghz

SP1 helps you play games at 75Hz. But if you want more so go with NVrefresh. I use Detonator 41.03 and it has refresh rate control built-in.
