I maintain that Bobby has been a better member over less time which is why je gor my vote. You would have been my 3rd or 4th vote, though I don't agree that longevity is necessarily worthy of the award.

As I said, Bobby is definitely a good choice for the award (if he wins).

I don't think longevity on its own is worth of the award, otherwise it'd simply go to the longest active members. But it is LIFETIME achievement, so it's not about being a flash in the pan. I wasn't pointing out that I'd been a member a long time - that's irrelevant, I agree. As mentioned, you weren't even here when I was at my most active. I also think admin and mod stuff is easily missed because it's not always clear what's done, who does it etc.

Well, most active members were not around when you were most active so there is no reason for you to expect a nomination or votes. I think it was implicity clear that the Lifetime award goes to a member who, while not necessarily active at present, has done the most to merit an incluson into a 'Hall of Fame'. I'd say that Bobby was one of the best posters around for 3-4 years at least, and those were the best years in SG history (the one I have experienced obviously).

I would say a several-year period can be considered a 'flash in the pan'. If we were handing out lifetime awards for movies, I, would rather give one to a director who made 5 masterpieces over 5 years and not much else, over someone who made 10 good films over 10. If we only considered people who have been here for SG's entire history, we wouldn't have the award, it would just be you, Yoyo and Shifty voting for each other.

As I said, it isn't about longevity - I agreed there.

My issue is that's is about a very particular time frame.

Most people voting weren't even around when Bobby was at his most active and best.

Those years weren't the best in SG history though. The original "crew" was the best, but of course that's all relative.

You seem to have this idea that I don't think Bobby should get the award. He, along with Sir_Didier_Drogba are the only two I would probably consider right now. Maybe Tom actually too. Tom was part of the golden era, had the highest post count for a long long time (I realise this isn't a point on its own), was an active super mod for even longer etc.

I think the award should also be called Hall of Fame. Lifetime Achievement hints more at longevity. Hall of Fame suits our criteria better.

Lior is another that should be in there. He was the original admin, and basically ran the site for Matt for years, whilst also being an active member.

I thought Hobbits were from the Shire?

I dunno about other members' votes, but anyone who wasn't around during Bobby's peak should have probably nominated someone they're familiar with. So long as people vote for their favorite within the timeframe they're familiar with, it's fine. But I don't see any point for people to vote for something someone did before they were active.

Yes, but not as much and your quality has suffered, as well. Your and Andrei's deterioration coupled with Xaviesta's emergence has signalled the end of the Romanian Empire.

Too true, mate. Brits' incompetence have always f*cked us over: Breaker Morant, Gallipoli and Singapore.

Which is exactly my point. The voters don't match the question for the lifetime achievement award. Using your movies example, at the Oscars they don't get 20 year olds to decide who gets inducted into the hall of fame.

ThT's true. The solution to that wpuld be to have a committee decide the winner but I think this way is better.
