Awesome article that pretty much says everything I think about Football at the moment and all that I argue when our teams go out of the playoffs early. Like perfectly.
To sum up here's the 2nd paragraph:
"The new generation of soccer fans across the world may not have heard of Peñarol, but it's a club that -- along with Real Madrid, AC Milan, São Paulo and Boca Juniors -- makes up a select group of the most successful organizations on the planet. Not long ago were they permanent elites in every world football fan's mouth. Even though Peñarol's last world club championship was back in 1982, when it beat Aston Villa for the Toyota Cup, it still has strong ties to the elite clubs of Europe. "
"This definitely has had an effect on a nation of 3.4 million that prides itself on soccer."
But states all the reasons why so many things have gone wrong since 1998 (how the small clubs wont sell their players to the "Big 2" anymore, causing terrible Continental competition and to fall behind to quoted "Second tier" (he's quoted saying that) nations <I didnt say it ...he did lol)
But yeah, that's why I hate the small teams now. But it's hard to Avoid Europe.........I mean ITS EUROPE! (Who wouldnt want to play there)
