St. Mirren In Trouble - Help Needed!

Apologies if this is seen as spamming but as the club I love so dearly is in danger of becoming extinct I don't care if you ban me for life.

St. Mirren have been trying for the past few years to get planning permission which would enable them to sell their ground to a supermarket chain. This would allow the club's debts to be cleared and a new stadium to be built and secure the club's future.

It was announced yesterday that planners had recommended Renfrewshire Council reject the applications, which would be the beginning of the end for the club. The council meet on Tuesday to make a final decision and myself and other St. Mirren fans are trying desperately to do something before then. A few of us have already e-mailed all the councillors on the planning board telling them how important St. Mirren is to Paisley and asking what advantages there would be if we had to leave the town.

Online petition's rarely work, I admit, but as I said we're trying everything. Obectors have handed in a petition signed by 784 people. We have managed more than 200 more signatures than that in just 24 hours!

I would ask as many people as possible, no matter where you are from or what team you support, to sign the petition and forward it to all your friends. It won't cost anything, will take just a few minutes and could just help.

The petition is at http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?sts1877&1

Thanks for your time :)

Planning Applications Passed
May 24, 2005
****************************
This afternoon the Planning Committee at the Renfrewshire Council voted in favour of St Mirren's planning applications to have the Love Street site re-zoned for Class 1 retail use and permission to build a new stadium on the Greenhill Road site.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for the support we have had from all corners of the world on this issue. In just under 48 hours close on to 3,000 people signed an online petition set-up by Thomas McIlroy. The petition was presented to the Planning Committee prior to the meeting, a petition that was signed by fans representing countless clubs the length and breadth of the UK as well as those from further off places on the globe.

The Club also received several letters, faxes and e-mails of support and we shouldn't forget about the mass turnout of fans at the Council offices today who showed what the Club means to them.

Once again, thank you all for your support.

We've still a long way to go until we're playing in our shiny new ground but this is a big step. Thanks to everyone on here who signed the petition, it means a hell of a lot :)
