It is possible...

Add these lines in locale.ini, if it doesn't exist just create it, from your EA SPORTS\FIFA 2005\ directory

DO_CPU_SUB = 1
CPU_SUB = 1

actually they do substitutions.....they use subs more often than me...even on non-injured players

That's right. They always make subs at half time but I'm not sure they change tactical formations too ,which means that you can have a ST playing CB or vice versa.

Indeed I have checked this . The comp can change several times formations during a match depending on the evolution of the score.
