Strangest goal I've ever seen!?!

Aston Villa's Swedish defender Olof Mellberg takes a throw in which he decided to throw back to Finnish keeper Peter Enckelman. This definately resulted in one of the strangest own goals ever in the history of football as you can see in this image below :

soccernet.com :

Villa's strenuous efforts then collapsed in farcical circumstance as a bizarre own goal from Enckelman handed Birmingham some breathing space.

The keeper's lazy attempt to control Mellberg's throw-in saw the ball take the slightest of touches off his boot and roll across the goal-line.

......

On Enckelman's howler, Savage added: 'He is a nice lad and I hope he recovers from that - I've never seen a goal like it.'

That own goal last year, I think it was Middlesborough vs someone and the dude passed back to his keeper from about 40 yards and scored an own goal..lol It was classic..:D

lol @ that goal. i saw it and it is really funny :D

last year in the bundesliga, someone hit a shot that went really high (10 or 20 or summin metres) and it dipped. The goalkeeper tried to catch it but he missed and it bounced off the top of his head into the goal :D.

sure .. it wa sa weird and funny goal /.///

but in all honesty it should never have counted... as the ball didn't touch Enckleman...
I think Andy Gray got it spot on with what he said after the game like he always does.

anyway too late now .... it wa sa goal ... Enckleman should have had his eye on the ball when he controlled it, and there wouldn't ve been anything to talk about

the crowd was funny afterwarsd .... that geezer who started wanking air in front of Enckleman's face and then tapping him on the cheek a few times :D ...
no shouldn't laugh .. Birmingham are in big trouble I think :kader:

I think so too, but the ref thought it slightly toughed his foot,
something that counts as a touch as well.

anyway, tho' it's was very funny (saw it live, and started laughing)
I wouldn't want to be in that GK position... his all confident is shaken now...:monkey: :monkeyman

I reckon he did touch it... i base this on the fact that he would NOT have tried to chase the ball down if he hadn't

and the way that he reacted afterwards!

I've also watched replays galore of the incident (on TV not the internet) and stopped the video at the point where he 'Allegedly' touched the ball

It looks as if his foot skimmed the top of the ball.

thaht would be a good argument ...
but the fact is Enckelman didn't know the full length of the rule.
For him the ball could have been thrwon into play ... straight into the net and it would have been a goal for him ( which is exactly what happened actually)

anyway if had touvched it .. the flight of the ball would have been different, it would have changed & the spin would have changed ... but there was no such thing .. the goal should never have stood

Why couldn't he have just grabbed it?
The Goalie isn't allowed to use his hands when he gets the ball from a throw it like a pass back.

And why did it make a difference coming off his foot?
You can't score directly from a throw in (in either goal :p )

you just have to register, but it's free.....the fan that put his fist in the keeper's face should be banned....

Yeah I agree he should be banned. Finns are usually quite cool & composed so Enckelman didn't react that much to the incident but that guy was going a little too far with his actions.

In my opinion it shouldn't of been a goal they showed a slow-motion clip of the own goal on Finnish TV and they showed Enckelman's foot close-up & it looked like it didn't touch his foot at all. I agree the goal shouldn't of stood.

He looks shocked!
