Follow the steps:
you have to download here the:
FIFA 14 CAREER AND TOURNAMENT MODE EDITOR V. 1.0
Through this tool you can easy manage cmsettings.ini and related cm mode files.
Click to open and edit cmsettings with the tool.
Go to this line - 86 in the editor:
RUN_FIRST_SEASON_CODE = 1 //-- default setting
set to 0 for enable uefa cup in first season, without manage at career start
RUN_FIRST_SEASON_CODE = 0 //-- uefa cup enabled
save, close tool, regenerate game files.
Start your new career!
Is your squad included in uefa cup?
You can check out and fix through CM14 by Rinando.
On you team screen edit the settings about cup and position last league.

The career mode won't crash usually. But the setting won't be applied of course. You'll have to start a new career to enable the new settings
