Surprise, Surprise....Brazil to host 2014 World Cup

i dont mind it going to brazil to be honest, its almost as if football is going home (even though england have that 3 lions tune), if there is ever a time for brazil to prove themselves it would have to be in front of their home crowd and it would be great to see a different type of atmosphere compared to the general european one of the last 3 or so world cups (even though 2002 was in japan and korea it was pretty similar)
even though i feel that fifa should bring the world cup to australian shores, brazil is still a worthy choice

viva brazil 2014

good thing you're not god or anything....or FIFA for that matter:|

It all depends on what FIFA decides to do with the rotation system. I'll be genuinely surprised if they pull 2014 from Brazil though.

I think Blatter has said it will be abandoned at 2014, so Brazil should still be okay.

Anyone know why Argentina didn't bid?

Argentina wanted to do a joint bid with Chile, but I think Blatter shot them down. They also say Argentina and Uruguay want to do a joint bid for 2030 ( ). Colombia had a bid too, but they backed out.

Blatter said the current rotation system would hold until 2014, but I've heard that they want to modify it so that CONMEBOL and CONCACAF bid together for hosting and that regions need to wait for two world cups to be eligible again after organizing one.

Meaning that if 2014 is pulled from Brazil and given to the US (CONCACAF), Brazil would have to wait until 2026 to host. If given to Australia (which would be eligible with the modified rotation), Brazil would probably be hosts in 2018.

In any case, I'd be very surprised if they pulled it from Brazil.

Heh, if our taxes were spent wisely, we'd have enough money and the required infrastructure to host a great World Cup. IF.

I don't think it was Blatter who shot it down because that was intended for 2010 a couple of years before they picked South Africa, i don't remember if it was a real bid or a lame idea that was floating around. And yes it's said that Uruguay(alone) wants to bid for 2030.

The talks of Argentina being a possible host for 2014, if for any reason Brazil wasn't hosting it, i think it was said to get the brazilians to work.

I just wanted to point out that nothing is official yet. The only thing official is that Brasil are the only candidates.

With that said,
No we're not ready to host, but will we ever be? Might as well enjoy it while we can. With the amount of money coming in, youd think we could improve our economy but it'll prolly go somewhere stupid, and funds will "misteriously" disapear.

Since we're winning the South African WC, I dont want to host it in 2014, because that'll just be too much pressure. We'll never win that one

Another upset by Uruguay in the final then?

We'll let you win 2030 if you let us win 2014.

And there's hoping that it stays in Brazil.
Supposedly we are going to host the Copa América in 2011, even though it wasn't confirmed yet, i don't see any idea, project or anything to work on the stadiums that could be possible hosts(the ones that were used for different tournaments in the past) nor clubs of situable cities doing anything, yes there are some clubs working on new stadiums but not in places that could be picked up for hosts. i.e: Independiente's stadium is highly unlikely to be picked to host, regardless of how good it'll be. And if it has to be in South America, probably Venezuela could do it seeing their stadiums for the Copa América. Maybe they would need 1 or 2 more for a World Cup.

...thinking again if Brazil can't do it then better hand it to us.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA..argentina elected a person just because she's the wife of the current president...i've already seen this movie ( EVITA PERON ahahahahahahahahaha) and this will be Evita2...come on, Argentina must be happy to host Copa America, because there are only 2 good staduims in the hole country that are good, the others must be demolished and rise new ones if some day you want to host a world cup for the second time

Why Australia or USA???

You don't even know the diference between a ball of football and a rugby ball

Brasil needs this WC as South Africa to improve the development of the country, because here the politicians just want to get rich using the money of the people and with the WC we'll have a huge investment on sector of transportation, wealth, security and maybe on education too
A country as Brasil really needs it

I hope go to watch the final in Maracanã in 2014(and Brasil NT will win, i hope ahahahahaha)...and it is very beatiful now and much more comfortable and modern
that is it, bye

heh, welcome to the forum mate, but really, it's the same around here, let's not fool ourselves thinking it isn't...

Revenge? You would need to beat us in a World Cup Final at the Centenario for that. And we both know that will never happen, since there's no way in hell Uruguay will ever host another World Cup, so...

I'm afraid but you saw the wrong movie, Evita wasn't even a candidate nor she got elected for anything.:o And Cristina Fernandez won because she was the less of the evils, or at least for the average argentine...

By the way regarding the stadiums of Argentina, the problem of the stadiums is that the majority are old and hardly had any upgrade or renovation, even i think the big stadiums of the important locations of Argentina(Mendoza, Mar Del Plata, Cordoba, La Plata, Rosario(Central) and Buenos Aires(Monumental)) don't need to be rebulit from scratch but more likely need fixings here and there, maybe La Plata's doesn't need anything really since it's 4 years old only. Then again of course for a Copa América not to talk about a World Cup more locations are needed, and probably would need a brand new stadium or a major expansion of the existing ones, i just mentioned those because those are the main ones, i think Tucumán wouldn't miss another Copa América or World Cup. At least for now there are serious clubs working on the stadia issue(See: http://www.infiernorojo.com/estadio/fotos/ ) and hopefully this will encourage clubs from locations *cough*River Plate and Rosario Central*cough* that would more likely be picked for a Copa América or World Cup host.

Then again i must clarify as i said other times before i think Argentina could host a World Cup but i wouldn't like the idea for the amount of money needed, however i would like a Copa América to be hosted here.

A new brazilian on board, and in great form too. (H)

Shame they go away so quickly... a bit like some of the "next Ronaldinhos", they appear out of nowhere, have a great run, then fade away...

Nice to see you're still around, Lean. I've been to Campinas recently, some petroleum-related meeting... skipped the water, though (H)

lol, great form indeed.
but just wanted to mention again, that IT IS NOT OFFICIAL that Brasil will host. It is simply official that we are the only candidate
