Does anyone know how the try-outs for amateur/professional teams in Europe work?
Is anyone trying-out for any team this summer?
What do they do in try-outs?
Which countries have good teams to try-out at?

I'm turning 17 in september and I was thinking in going to Europe to try-out for several teams through out it. I'm currently living in the U.S. and I it's really hard to get info about try-outs in teams through out Europe so any help would be highly appreciated!

Cheers!

umm......have u represented any country at youth level?

'cause if not then it would be really hard to even get taken for trials. i mean i thought most ppl got into the trials by invitation.

and were you gonna trial for a team even though you're based in the U.S?

and wouldn't it be easier to trial for teams over there in the U.S?

Well it would be a lot easier to try-out here but the thing is that I don't really like their style of play, I don't know, there something with soccer here that just doesn't connect. Well you see I've been invited to try-out for the Olympic Development Program but I didn't go because I don't have a citizenship for the US.

You see, I didn't know that to try-out there you'd have to get an invitation. I thought that some teams had some dates over the summer where they had open try-outs.:(

Anyone else have any info?

sorry mate but it will be hard to get to try out in Europe without having represented a country in soccer just like henry14 said. the same situation happened with me... i wrote emails to many european teams and they all told me the same thing, that i need to represent a country in soccer to be able to get a permit, but because i didnt mention that i was also a Bosnian citizen would it make any difference? (in the email i did not mention my nationality, i just said i live in USA)

i am going to try-outs for Columbus Crew two weeks from today on May 8th in Ohio. maybe you should come too? :)

Crew to Hold Open Tryout May 8 at Obetz

Open Tryout Will Be Broken Down Into Three Sessions That Day

Columbus Crew President and General Manager Jim Smith announced today that the club will hold open tryouts for the third straight year, on Saturday, May 8, 2004, at the Crew Training Center at Obetz (Ohio).

The tryout will be an all-day affair, with registration beginning at 7 a.m. and the evening session ending at 7 p.m. Select members of the Crew coaching staff will be in attendance throughout the day to assess and evaluate the entire player pool. As part of that evaluation process, the coaching staff will reserve the right to dismiss candidates at any time throughout the day. College players will not be eligible to participate in the tryout. There is no pre-registration, just show up on the day of the tryout.

All tryout participants will receive an official numbered practice tryout shirt that is theirs to keep. There will be a $50 administrative fee per player, which must be paid in cash or check prior to the first training session, with proceeds going to the Crew Foundation’s Kicks for Kids program.

Individuals wishing to try out are solely responsible for any and all accommodations and transportation they deem necessary. They are also responsible for their own training gear, such as cleats and shin guards and anything else they might need to perform to the best of their abilities. Players must also bring their own ball.

For further information, interested players are encouraged to call Mike Lapper, The Crew’s Director of Soccer Business Development, at 614-447-4141.

Well if you don't have US citizenship than I am pretty sure you will not be allowed to play in the MLS for the Crew because of the rule stating you can only have 3 international players on one team. I may not know the entirity of the rule so if someone could clear it up if I am wrong that would be great.

Bosnia isnt part of the EU, so it would have made no difference. Bosnians need permits to play in EU countries just the same as Americans.

Usually major european clubs hold trials overseas at the end of each season, you will just have to check out if there's such trials anywhere near you.

Well I think first you have to understand that this "try out" is more of a pubilcity thing than actually try out. They just want people to come out get a knowledge of the team. Raise some money for a good cause and get on the news. Unless you show supernatural skill they will probably not even bother to pick anyone. If you are talented then yes but this you should know that this is more of a pub thing than an actual try out. Most teams do this sort of thing just to create a buzz about the team and get more people interested. I don't mean to rain on your parade but this is just what I have seen from try outs like this in the past. I do wish you the best of luck but if you don't get picked don't take it the wrong way because they really aren't looking for players but are looking for some free publicity.

that really sucks then, almost no point of going at all.

i know im not Ronaldo, but i know that i am a very good player and i many people told me that i will go far in soccer, way too many for me not to want to have a future in soccer. if it really is like you say "just for the money and publicity" then i might start thinking if i want to go at all. :( and i was really looking forward to this. :(

What you should look into is a regional league who will try-out players for no money at all.

The league out here on the west coast has a website http://www.mpsl.info/

I know the team in Sacramento even lets you send in aplications online and will then call you back for a one on one try out. It is much better than a big group try out.

Also if you do good in a smaller league MLS scouts will pick up on you and see your talent over a span of games and not just a quick 1 hour session. It is better for the long term of your career. While of course it is not excatly the best league in the world you have to start somewhere. Like I said if you do well in this league MLS scouts will come to you and not the other way around.

milan has try-outs in milanello all the summers. 2 friends of mine went to that camp, none got selected, but one of them impressed this other guy from a serie D team and got him to play for their lower division team.
i guess you gotta contact the teams that you want to find out if they have try-outs.
but the best way to play over there in europe its just to live there, play in a regional team, and get noticed if you are good enough.

Start playing recreational soccer.....work on some skills between games in a park or something. Then think about trying out at a club in the US.....Europe might be too difficult...living there is probably the only option. Anyways if you work hard enough a scout might show up at a rec game if someone who notices you invites him...I emphasize MIGHT. That could lead to a tryout. But for a European tryout, I really do not know if those scouts ever cross the Atlantic too often. You would have to be a national team member or something really good for that to happen.

I have read a lot of things about canadians going to european clubs after try-outs. And like pennington10 said, i would bother about those try-outs. I will say how it is in Canada. If you want to play in a european club, then it goes like this or at least that's how one guy from Canada got into Newcastle youth team somewhat 2 years ago. He played Rep league (between cities), then he got into provincial level (Provinces) and then only after that he was able to join Canada youth team and that's where Newcastle spotted him and made an invitation.

I dunno what the system is for the USA, but in Europe, most players usually play for their nearest professional club in their youth levels, very early in age, something like 10 years old or something like that. And that would be the easiest way to go about playing at professional level, IMO. But in the USA, what you need to do is go to college and play soccer in college, and get drafted into an MLS team. That is the easiest route to make an eventual move to Europe, because it's going to be very hard to get trails over there unless you want to play for a smaller team.

If you don't mind playing for small professional clubs, just go to Portugal. Mention you're Brazilian and bam you're part of the squad. :crazyboy:
