Like many other dilusional souls, I was also caught up in the EURO2004 mania, or the spirit of things as we shall say it. So what more to add-on to this excitement but a game dedicated to this marvelous event.
However, being wary of previous falters by the "Microsoft" of soccer, I decided to keep my well earned dosh in my pocket and download and try this new marketing miracle.
So I did, patiently waited while my 50k internet downloaded the game for 7 hours. And then as an excited child hearing the ice cream truck, I rushed to install it and play it.
People say "First impressions last". Well they do. I spend 20minutes to figure out why EURO2004 prefers my Microsoft Sidewinder over my Logitech Wireless Wingman. Once I did, I got into the game. I was ready to pull out my tool box and try to fix my monitor, because all of a sudden everything went blurry. I thought there goes my 19". But hang on, its not the monitor, its the game.
While most games go for the futuristic 3d look, EURO2K4 seems to be quite cartoonish. And the colours, oooooooooohhhhhhhhh, AWFUL!!!
Having just quit a ML game with PES3, I was a bit confused at first. I didnt know whether I just began playing EURO2004 or EURO1992, as the gameplay felt as if it was programmed by a newb on a DX286 machine.
With not much improvement over its SHAMEFUL predecessor, FIFA2004, EURO does not even deliver the glamour that the competition should bring. Even EURO2002 was a better game in both appearence & gameplay.
Im not going into details about this new EA EURO_PINBALL 2004, because its the same old story every year. I have lost my patience.
So finally I thank EA SPORTS for reminding why PES3 is still the greatest football game ever made, and at this point it is lightyears ahead of FIFA. No comparison should be ever made, because it is like saying that a Mitsubishi Lancer is a better car than the Lamborghini Diablo!
At this rate PES4 will be something so unbeleivable, the staff at EA will be thinking they are watching a real game of football, not football simulation.
For me, to be honest, the best EA game is still FIFA INTERNATIONAL SOCCER! That tells you the progress EA have made over the past decade, zilch.
So they should admit that they have been beaten in this market and hand over the player licenses to Konami as they are the true masters of FOOTBALL SIMULATION!
p.s. Before you go on whinging about the warez factor, dont worry the game has been uninstalled and deleted, the 1GB oh HD space that it hogged can be put to a much greater use than that garbage!
PES3 RULES!!!
