The 2014 World Cup Thread - Football, Favelas and Financial Turmoil

I am disappointed in the lack of protests.

This World Cup was supposed to be the one that addressed the important issues - the Brazilian people who protested LAST year have a lot to be disappointed about. They lost interest in financial fair play. And why? For no good reason! Disappointing.

I don't think Germany were really all that good, but they were nevertheless the best team in Brazil this summer. There's room for another team to eclipse them; I'm specifically looking at Spain if they shoo out the older generation. Thiago, Koke, etc are going to be incredible players as long as they don't have to beat out stupid Iniesta for the next 10 years.

Germany were the better team throughout, definitely. Although in today's match particularly Argentina can only blame themselves really.

Germany looked very vulnerable a lot of times, but Argentina never even made Neuer earn that Golden Glove. They beat themselves.

You can't say that. They created chances and half-chances. In a World Cup final, you have to be clueless to expect 7-1.

Argentina benefited from an easy draw. They were never tested. Holland were weak and scared - just like Brazil was, vs Germany. If Argentina had to have played England, Italy or Portugal, then they would have been given a real test. Nigeria never really had any structure and they came closest to beating Argentina prior to the final.

They also struggled against a wasteful Swizz team. This Argentine team could have been out in the round of 16, but luck played in their favor beyond the group stages.

Germany were also happy to make the generational shift. Unlike Spain, who, instead of having players quit while they were ahead, they kept them on into infamy.

They took the Italy route.

With De Gea, Carvajal, Montoya, Bartra, Inigo, Ramos, Pique, Jordi Alba, Alberto Moreno, Busquets, Illarra, Koke, Thiago, Javi Martinez, Cesc, Mata, (Diego Costa), Navas, Deulofeu, Jese and I probably forgot like 10 names.

So the same back 3? Sure they'll have some new blood, but they weren't sent out to play in this tournament.

They made that shift 4 years ago. After making that decision ahead of South Africa, they really didn't have a choice this time.

Pique and Ramos cannot play center backs together. They're not disciplined enough.

They can do it. It worked at the Euros. It's not like one of them is David Luiz.

Both Pique and Ramos need someone to discipline them from time to time, but they can work together although I think the pair in 2018 and maybe even in 2016 will be different.
