I don't think this is common knowledge but Baptista's contract becomes unproteced in the new year (even though it runs out in 2008), meaning that not only if we got him then, could we get him at a much more reasonable price (decided at arbitartion i think), but Sevilla would have to accept the offer, and also he would have a Spanish passport so their would be no delay and he would not be counted as non-EU player.

Only problem is all the top Spanish and English clubs will be sniffing around him, so we need to get him to sign a pre-contract or something.

And Gilberto leaving? No way, next to Henry, Gilberto is the least likely Arsenal player to leave. I wouldn't buy any story that suggests Wenger wants more playing time for Flamini or Cesc, because Edu has already left leaving a gap for them, and as we saw last season Vieira, Cesc or Flamini (yet?) can't play the holding midfielder role, like Gilberto.

In England we dont have a non-eu rule like in spain etc. they just need to be granted work permits to work over here.

He wouldn't need a work permit if he got a Spanish passport, while if we got him now we would most likely have to launch an appeal to allow him to get a work permit. This can take upto a month, so if we got him now and had to appeal he wouldn't be fit for the start of the new season.

Better to get him in the January transfer window IMO.

Not only do you not need Owen, I think its unrealistic to presume that Real, who were prepared to pay only about 23 million for Viera last year, would pay 15 for him while throwing in Michael Owen, considering Viera's value has dropped and Owen's has undoubtedly risen.

In all honesty, though, id be more than a bit pissed if you lot got Owen. Not only is he, in my opinion the young-ish poacher that Chelsea desperately need (after Super Kezman's departure) but he is one of my all time favorites.

I think it's cos he won't get an work permit because of his lack of Brazil games. If he gets a Spainish passport he can play for any club in Europe without hassle.
