The Australian Cricket Team THread

Australia have already taken control of the match in only half a days play. I love watching Australia play but sometimes it's too boring as they win everything by too much. No one can challenge Australia and half of them are already beaten before going out to play, mentally.

Thats a good idea. But that would be like Australia 2nd XI except for like tendulker and lara.

Cricket is a team sport u cant just bang a team together for one game and expect them to perform

I think India has top batsmen, but their bowling attack isnt nearly as good as Australias...and their batting doesnt have quite the depth....AND India usually struggle away from home...This test could go anyway tho, the rian has really messed things about...

As for the World XI concept...The ICC has said that every 4 or 6 years or something, a World XI will be chosen to play the number one ranked test and one day sides...

I disagree that Australia would thrash a World XI. I think if there is any sport where a World XI would really work, it is cricket...It is much less team orientated than other sports..No passing, or anything like that, so it would work much better than other sports...AND it is a series I believe that Australia will play against them...Not just one match...

My World XI would be something like this:

Vaughan
Gibbs
Tendulkar
Lara
Inzaman
Kallis
Dravid
Pollock
Akhtar
Younis
Muralitharan

I was struggling to choose my third pacey...Younis, Ntini, Dillon, Khan and even the kiwis Tuffey and Bond...But i went with the experienced Younis...

Graeme Smith was another guy that was close to making it in my team...But he hasnt performed for long enough yet...He still has loads to prove IMO :D

Captain? Not sure, its a tough call...I would have said Pollock but he isnt even South African captain now...Tendulkar is in the same boat, and I think Lara is better as a player than a captain...Maybe Younis? But then again I dont like bowlers as captains...You can decide for yourself :)

Take out Waqar, put Bond in his place and I wholeheartedly agree with your team. Waqar looks a shadow of his former self, and Bond is quite possibly the best *bowler* of the quick 3 group that also includes Lee and Akhtar(just my opinion though). He has a flawless action, generates a huge amount of pace, is quite accurate and can move it both ways. Your team doesn't really have a captain in it, though. Someone like Fleming or Waugh would do well there, or maybe even Chris Cairns. Out of those eleven, I'd pick Pollock as captain because he did a fairly decent job with a South African side that was hard-hit by the Hansie Cronje affair.

I know that. I said I felt Bond was the best bowler out of the quickest 3 in the world, I wasn't saying Lee should be in the World XI team. I also said that someone LIKE(i.e shares similar characteristics with) Fleming or Waugh would be needed in the World XI side. I never said that Waugh should be in the World team.

I definitely disagree that Bond is better than Akhtar and Lee...For starters Lee and Akhtar are just that step quicker than Bond..That moves them into the bloody fast catergory, rather than just the fast...Also when it comes to taking wickets Lee and Akhtar are as good as anyone in the world...They might go for an occasional boundary, but that comes with the pace they bowl at...

Bond has previously had better control than Lee and Akhtar, but lately both those two are getting awesome control...I know Brett Lee in particular has come in leaps and bounds in that area, with help from none other than Glenn McGrath I believe...

Drop Waqar? Its a big call. I still think he is the best reverse swing bowler in the world, and not many have a better yorker...And experienced fast bowlers should never be discounted...

As for the Stephen Fleming type player...I disagree. That side has plenty of guys that have captained their teams in test matches. I would probably agree with you tho and choose Pollock as my captain...
