FANTANTONIO
Cassano has been getting better and better since his move to Samp, and he is definitely the most talented Italian in Serie A ... on skill and performance there is absolutely no justification whatsoever to his exclusion ... and he is no longer "Cassanata", based on how convincingly he has taken on his leadership responsibility at Samp ... looks like Peter Pan finally grew up ... I don't see what reason there is left for Lippi, especially because Fantantonio's vision and creativity is exactly what is so glaringly lacking in the Azzurri performances ... if Cassano gets called up and he repeatedly fails, then I understand shunning him ... but not giving him just as much a chance as everyone else is just inexcusable ... he should be given his due, especially considering the number of forwards in recent years who have sucked (and continue to suck) at the international level and yet are/were given an extended period to prove themselves ...
LIPPI'S LOGIC
the big problem is not that Italy won't qualify; they will, because the group is not the most challenging ... but qualifying is one thing, challenging at the World Cup is another ... Lippi claims that Italy are a "tournament team", and rise to the occasion when the occasion arrives ... well, the Confederations Cup was an "occasion" which the team were expected to challenge for and Lippi claimed they would be challenging for ... what happened to his theory there?
granted, after the tournament he's made a few changes, but he's still leaving out the best Italian available with illogical reasoning ... if he is so illogical about one aspect, surely the people cannot accept that he is thinking logically about everything else ...
his illogicality continues when it comes to calling up naturalized players ... he says that it is ok to call up Amauri because we've been talking about him for a while, but it NOT ok to consider others like Thiago Motta who have made themselves available ... well, Lippi claims he is old fashioned when it comes to naturalization, but the problem is not only that he decides to suddenly make an exception, he's making it with illogical reasoning ... unlike Amauri, Thiago Motta is a second generation Italian, and Motta held an Italian passport before applying for his Brazilian passport ... if anything, Motta is "more Italian" than Amauri in an "old fashioned" sense ... so then why say that Motta won't be considered? if he is not good enough, so be it ... but why not even consider him? look, I'm not discussing whether naturalized players should be called up or not, I'm pointing out the lack of logic in Lippi's reasoning ... his declaration that other naturalized players won't be considered betrays his lack of logical thought ...
A NATION'S IRE
it is not a secret that the topics of Cassano's non-selection and Lippi's lack of satisfactory explanation has caused public furore amongst Italians and Italian supporters worldwide ... but will it really take a World Cup debacle before Lippi's position is questioned or the man himself admits to his mistakes?! unless Italy gets the easiest group ever drawn (which is possible coz the World Champions will be top seeds), the second round does not look like a guarantee, let alone a challenge for the trophy ... I cannot imagine the nations ire upon this man if, after all this bullcrap, the team fails as miserably as their performances indicate they will ...
