i hope that gattuso does not start, hopefully de rossi will cus he plays well whenever lippi calls on him.
but if we do play 4-3-3 then i see perrotta or de rossi starting cus i think that is what he tried out when he put them in the practice match to see whether de rossi or perrotta played good init.

thankfully Lippi seems to have finally realized how sh*tty Zaccardo is, especially after Swiss game (and a mediocre season,,, which went ignored tho), and Oddo will get the start.

I think its in our best interest to start 2 hard working midfielders against a midfield of Ghana which features Muntari, Essien and Appiah. I honestly have real doubts whether Pirlo can be effective against such an athletic/strong/fast Ghana midfield, but hes always played well in Tottis absence, so I dont see why not.

By the way, this further proves how useless a decision it was for Lippi to take an extra def mid (Barone) than take a second attacking mid (Marchionni). Stubborn old Italian coaches :nape:

De Rossi just booked himself a permanent starting role. Still a huge blow losing Gattuso for at least 2 games. He is such a workhorse and a ball winner.

but yeh, always nice to have gattuso to throw in into the mix just to chop a game to the sh*thouse

not many people understand Gattuso's importance.

Pirlo could work wonders only if Gattuso backs him up the whole game. I hope De Rossi could provide the same for Pirlo.

he is THE playmaker of the team.

Totti will play like Kaká at Milan, a more advanced role and freed up of playmaking duties. But Totti and Pirlo seldom do well together.

man, you're on crack. playmaking comes from more than just totti or pirlo. sure those are the main two, but camoranesi has done a wonderful job of creating, same goes for del piero, zambrotta and grosso. half our goals come from there crosses.

de rossi has proven he can play with pirlo, in the gattuso role. actually, to be honest, he has been playing it better lately. also de rossi is a threat going forward as well.

you are also saying that pirlo is useless without gattuso or a DM to play with him so he doesnt have to defend. im not gonna get negative, but pirlo has to get his act together, and what a better stage to do it on.

This years Pirlo with or without Gattuso as been playing below his standards. He doesn't get enough balls from the D to control the game. I don't like the fact that he's too slow and can't defend. I would play De Rossi in front of the D. He's done wonders with Roma in this position. He can defend and go in front. If Gattuso, Zambrotta, Nesta and possibly Totti out for the 1st game I'd play this:

Id start a 75% Totti over Del Piero. If DP is to have any impact on this tourney, itll be off the bench. Im glad De Rossi will definately start now, but Gattuso was such a workhorse, we couldve used him to close out games. Perrotta isnt the same type of player (nor is De Rossi really) and Barone,,, should be on the Italy C team.

Im not too worried about Materazzi starting, he's been pretty solid for the NT when called upon. The game against Ghana will be won or lost (or drawn) in the midfield. We're far superior to Ghana and US in class, so I hope we show it.

Nobody has mentioned Pippo at all, and Lippi seems more likely to call upon Iaquinta.

Id give Pirlo the start against Ghana, if after 50 minutes hes inaffective, Perrotta has to be brought on. Other than that, Im not too confident about our team, but i remember being a lot happier with the 02' and 04' versions, and look how they turned out.

With no Cassano in the roster, and DP unreliable, I think if we have any sucess at the WC, it all rides on Totti. If he can regain the form he had before injury this season, I dont worry.

Perrotta, De Rossi, Pirlo and Camo will most likely all play. Lippi's gonna try and win the midfield against Ghana

i like mark's formation, with totti and DP each playing half...maybe DP would be better for the 2nd half

i think we all want oddo to start...but will lippi actually do it? i can see grosso and zaccardo playing

I know that he's a f*ckin dirty player... but i thought he had at least some defensive skills, other than his terroristic tackles and actions on the field...

I dont really support Italy, but it has some Milan players so I hope they do good. :$
