By the way, the best AMC in the game is Sergey Nikiforenko. He will average a goal per game in the position just behind the strikers.
If you are playing an update though (CMSORTED for example) they might have made him worse. In that case my favourite player is the italian nigerian Obafemi Akinwunmi Martins (16 years old when you start the game). In the original game he starts on free transfer. His position says forward but he is the best at the offensive midfielder position behind the two strikers from where he will score 40+ goals as a 16-17 year old in any league. His numbers really suck but don't be fooled, he will score many goals and have a great average.

oh come on, Aimar has to be the best AMC, he has evrrything! Passing, Technique, Dribbling, Flair!! Everything!!!!! Nikiforenko is good but not as good as Aimar!!

ive never tried aimar i might have to sometime but with a decent club maybe

I've got Ronaldinho, Arjen Robben, Riquelme, Aimar all in the same team.

On personal feel, i rotate Robben for smaller league games and Ronaldinho for ECL matches.

Riquelme has been superb in heart of midfield while i've used Aimar only sparringly this season as i just bought him and needs time to settle in. But Aimar can be top class once he's in top form, anywhere in midfield or AMC.

He always has an injury blow for a few months where he needs surgery and if not hes busy being a prima donna
