I just dont like US Overseas politic in the last 50 years...and of course the whole ''AMERICA'' and ''SOCCER'' thing...but i can live with that... :)

I think the football in the US is too young to compete against nations that have 100 years of football tradition.

I think that in 10 or 20 years US will show better football...and probably a better league.

They have the money and the infrastructure to become a better team...

Maybe their problem is that they have to take three steps down in the food chain...and they arent ready to do that... :)

Commercials like this dont help very much either here.

I think you missed the irony of that ad. It was primarily directed at soccer fans in the US who have long accepted that no one here really cares about the game.

I guess the US really showed everyone to beware in the 1st match... Dismal.

USA will never be a masterful country in world football.
simply because the "people" dont care about it, i mean i m from Turkey. when we played in the last world cup, you had to see, before the match against Brazil, Government buildings, streets, the main square of the city, EVERYWHERE was empty, i mean empty, i was on the road the last 10 minutes of that game and there was 3-4 people on the whole street. Thats how big soccer is, and its like this in italy, england, spain, greece, germany, brazil, argentina etc..
USA however, they prefer to watch "Superbowl" or they prefer to debate if white sox will ever win the world series.. there is nothing wrong with this, its like using a left or a right hand, matter of choice.
but because of this, i also feel sorry for the american soccer, i dont think its going any brighter than it is right now.

truely the fan's passion is lacking in the U.S., there are a few dedicated fans alot of them in these forums, but I don't think that is directly effecting the player's performance right now, they only had one bad game.

Let's wait till after Italy.

It would be a lot different if we were a country that couldnt afford to play exspensive sports like ice hockey ect, most people than would be playing/watching vollyball soccer ect like brazil/argentina/ the middle east ect. Soccers very easy and accessable to play for countries where the average person doesn ern a decent living, all you need is a patch of dirt and a ball and your good to go. The main sports of North america are always gonna be NHL, NFL,NBA and MLB they all apply more to our culture.

sorry man thats wrong. Basketball is just as accessable as football, so why aint that game played more around the world.

The popularity of football globally has nothing to do with economics at all. That is the reason for its popularity, dished out by your media and it just aint true. Football is huge globally because it is the WORLDS game. The players are known all around the world from poor kids to rich kids, in third world countries and affluent countries too. People in England earn a decent living, thank you very much, but no other sport will ever come anywhere near football. The same can be said for the entire continent of Europe. Do you think everyone but Americans still ride around on donkeys waiting for someone to invent the wheel? What you are saying is very arrogant, insulting and ignorant indeed. I understand that might be the excuse thats given in the USA but its all lies mate.

NHL, NBA and NFL players are only well known in the USA, and of course in countries that the USA have occupied/influenced since the end of WWII. Certain individuals may also be familiar with the names of these players, but thats it. Outside the USA those 3 games have very little following on a global scale. Mainly because those sports are extremely boring to watch to the majority of non Americans. I mean, the only thing most people watch the NHL for is for the fights that break out. That is a crazy reason for following a sport. For the violence?

I believe here's an important point which may make a difference, the "tradition". For way the MLS is managed and organized to me it doesn't seem like they want to make a "tradition", with teams moving to another cities and such. I mean if the MLS remains for say some more 15 years, how many teams will remains in the same places and or with the same names(not like the name issue is that relevant however).

Actually I would go so far as to say that we're not a sports nation. There is no game or sport that can captivate the entire country like soccer can to many other nations. Even during the Super Bowl there will be tons of people out who don't care. There has never been anything in my life that has captivated people to the point where cities were abandoned; the closest thing was probably when the Packers played in the Super Bowl, but that's just because Wisconsin is CRAZY for that team, it was a local phenomenon, and of course even still there were people out at the mall or driving somewhere who didn't care about it.

For one thing hockey is a CANADIAN SPORT its extreamly popular in places like finland czech republic slovackia russia, and is mildy popular in places like germany, people watch hockey because its the fastest sport on earth packed with lots of action and amazing skill levels, the fact that its really rough is part of the sport. LOL a large majority of nhl superstars are europeon give me a break.
