The bible for Defending.

Try to make tackels with your midfeild, and back of with your defenders. Dont run in with your defenders trying to intercept the ball before it gets to your attackers, cos then your screwed.

Keep backing off, and till the reach you the put the tackles in. Not slide tackles tho.

If a player is clean through, your full backs will stand and watch him. So what you gota do is select them and make them run towards the box (not the player) and if you are lucky you will get there just in time to make a tackle or even slide in to block the shot and knock the ball away!

Best thing is to practice. Play loads of matches on world class on concentrate on keeping the score as low as possible by just defending dont worry about attacking.

Then concentrate soley on keeping a clean sheet. You will start to notice once you do this you will steal the odd goal and win mathces.

Defence will soon become second nature and you can concentrate on getting those goals and kicking the computer ass!!!

Never try to round players in defence you will be tackled and you will loose a goal.

Winning a world cup with england on world class. Is a very acceptable standard to be at. So that is your aim.

They play with a 4-4-2 formation. I suggest you put this on defensive. And play to win. If you go a goal down early put in on normal. If go another goal down put it on attacking. Or of you are still down a goal in the second half put it on attacking. Oh and put vassel on, he is a legend in the game. Try to fit joe cole in the midfeild, he also has a very high rating.

If you have any other defensive tips please add them to the bible.

Sometimes when a ball is being passes from one opposing player to another, and you are marking the receiving player, just before the ball gets to him you can get in front of him using analog + the o button (playstation2) and intercept him ,at the same time catching him flatfooted meaning you have a headstart on him after taking the ball. This works for me pretty frequently

thats a bit risky though the defenders can be finiky and the ball sometimes simply passes through them, or you end up "overskating" (which is what it feels like sometimes) the path of the pass and then the attacker is one on one with your keeper.

good advise u guys giving

well i use 4-1-2-1-2 as my tatic cause its gd for defending and attacking but it leaves the wings open but usually the 2 in the center will go for the wings

if u want a little extra speed to catch up to a striker who has made a break on you hold down run and tackle- to me, it seems as though they speed up more- then simply run beside him and keep holding it down until you tackle him.

if he is coming in on an angle try to get to one side of him, forcing him to shoot to the other side where the keeper is- the idea behind this is effectively, if you cant tackle the ball away try to close down the strikers shooting range so he either kicks the ball into your defender or keeper, or sends it wide/over the target. takes a little pratice, but when it comes naturally to you, its damn helpful.

keeper charging.. only send your keeper out of the box if its one on and one and if by sending him towards the opponent it makes angle he has to shoot on even tighter- dont charge if he has heaps of space for a shot on goal or you will pay the price.

pack the backline, best defenders with passing and shooting abilities in the middle because they will then be better placed for set pieces and moving men forward.

dont always play your midfield on players who either are in the starting lineup in real life, in the game, or play that as there natural position. unlike in CM positioning is next to errelevant in this, high scoring/low tackling = striker- simple. so, for your midfield, replace a midfielder who perhaps cant tackle too well with someone who can and has enough speed, ball control and passsing abilities to be worthwhile in the middle.- note, this also helps in vice versa- some defenders make excellent midfielders and if there shooting and passing abilities are above average they can also make for a good stand in wingman for when you change your strategy midgame and dont have the numbers u need.

thats about all i cant think of right about now.

playing your guys out of position isnt too far off...Solskjær sometimes has to play in the midfield. I'm not sure if you could get away with switching guys from the right to the left in real life that might be awkward for a right footed player. Although you are right in the game it is irrelevant.

well i like to play attacking 4-4-2

but tell me why the hell is my defender (in the red circle) so back, theres no1 to defend?
i'll tell u, he stands there alone, making sure that when the cpu passes foward (ot the guy in the yellow circle) there'll be no offside!

NO OFFSIDE 4 CPU !!!

CPU cheats, i tell u

65% of the goals scored by cpu r like this

:f***: :f***: :f***:

n' if some1 makes a patch what'll fix this, then i'll  him like he was god

*the screen's bad b'cause i already got the ball from cpu

Offside:

During the game it seems like the Computer is offside a lot. But, this is not true.

It all depends on the camera angle you are playing with because their is no way to tell it is very hard to tell if it really is offside or not because you are concentrating on the game.

Thus, Instant Replay is a must! If you think it is offside, pause the game and go to instant replay. Since we dont have Free Camera anymore, use Tele cam because it is the widest angle for the camera.

Then pause right as the computer touches the ball that is being played to the computer's teammate, and you will cleary see that either one of your defenders offscreen in a poor poistion kept him on, or he was onside when the ball was kicked.

You can learn a lot by Instant Replay. I suggest you take a close look at it.

And if you still think the computer is cheating, open up AI.INI inside the INI.BIG file and turn CPUOFFSIDE = 1.

Hope this helps.

my point was why 1 of my defenders is always so back - if he'd be on the same line with the other three, it wouldn't be a problem 4 me

i ment that ai was cheahin' by moving my LB so back

:(

you can change it. that's how it is. just move your mouse pointer so its directly over the arrows and click. for some reason, it wasnt optimized. :)

I totally agree with you. The CPU doesn't cheat, but clearly the CPU runs my backs too, and one of them, usually a fullback not participating in the game, doesn't keep the line back there. This makes throupasses for the CPU very easy, and it's something we as players can't don anything about. It's in fact frustrating that the CPU can do things we can't, like keeping a flat backline, and head the ball when standing alone...
