A friend of mine is going, he's covering Prince of Persia.

Metal Slug 4 and 5 for PS2 and XBOX? I take it those are going to be straight Neo Geo ports?

Anyway, can't wait for ...

StarCraft: Ghost, Shining Force Neo, Perfect Dark Zero, and Phantasy Star Universe. It's a shame PSU won't be on XBOX.

Pre-E3 2005: Breaking: Revolution Details
Sleek system to play standard DVDs, says Nintendo.
by Matt Casamassina

May 12, 2005 - The Electronics Entertainment Expo 2005 is still days away, but that hasn't stopped Microsoft from debuting its Xbox 360 console on MTV. And now Nintendo has followed suit, revealing some new, meaty details about its next-generation console, codenamed Revolution.

In a recent New York Times article, Nintendo of America's vice president of corporate affairs Perrin Kaplan describes the console as "very, very sleek." The system, which is reportedly tiny, will stand horizontally. Its width will reportedly be no more than three DVD cases stacked flatly on each other, or slightly more than an inch. That makes the console theoretically smaller than Apple's recently released Mac Mini computer.

Although Nintendo has historically selected proprietary media formats, such as the GameCube Optical Disc, for its platforms, the publisher is with Revolution opting for a more standardized medium. The new console will play standard DVD media, according to the company. Nintendo has not yet revealed if Revolution will as a result be able to play Hollywood movies on DVD, but that seems very likely at this point.

At the Game Developers' Conference in March, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said that Revolution would offer Wi-Fi online connections out of the box and would be backward compatible with GameCube, or able to play GCN software.

According to recent information, Revolution will also be able to play high-definition games and regularly go online.

Finally -- something of a no-brainer given the popularity of the Wave Bird pads -- Revolution's still-secret controller will be completely wireless. Controllers for Microsoft's Xbox 360 are also wireless. Upon hearing this news, puppies everywhere let out a collective cry.

More details to come at E3 2005. Stay tuned.

good move by Nintendo. :rockman:

I'm looking forward to see what all three major consoles will offer. That Nintendo Revolution article is very interesting, I like the backward compability feature with Gamecube games. :)

Nintendo's Revolution will be able to PLAY DVDs and regularly go online? WOW!! ASTONISHING!! What a glorious step and achievement for gaming mankind, seriously! And backwards capability is hardly something to bust a nut over.

Nintendo should just drop out of the hardware market while they still have their heads. They will always be two steps back.

Nintendo stop being innovative a long time ago. There attitude has now become "wow Microsoft is doing that, lets copy!"

I know they stopped being innovative, they stopped giving a crap after Sony won the Console War. Nintendo has no other choice but to follow up on what Microsoft and Sony is doing. Nintendo should just do what Sega is doing now -- strictly produce and develop games.

How can Nintendo be considered the 'copycat' when they are the most innovative videogame company??
They introduced the control stick with the N64, now all consoles use it on their controllers; they created the 'rumble pak' with the N64, now all controllers have a rumble feature; they were the first to have official wireless controllers (with the Gamecube), now the new xbox will have wireless controllers...
Online features?? The Dreamcast was the first console to go online, way before the PS2 and Xbox. As for the DVD playing, the PS2 was the first console with that feature.

To me, it looks like Microsoft is the least innovative (the only cool thing they introduced is the hard drive) company out there... unless you consider changeable faceplates something innovative!

And the reason I'm excited about backward compability with GC games is because I own a lot of GC games. Definitely not an spectacular feature but certainly better than not having it

You just misinterpreted a lot of what I and QuikZilver said. Go back to school.

They (Nintendo) were the most innovative gaming company. The keyword being were. No one said they weren't. And don't start pulling out Nintendo's credentials, because I'm fully aware of what they are.

And why are you stating well-known game facts we're all aware of? We know the Dreamcast was the first console to present online capabilty. I ate, slept, and shit Phantasy Star Online and Quake III. I purchased the system on launch day for Christ's sake. And we also know the PS2 was the first console to feature an embedded DVD player.

The reason I punked Nintendo for finally wanting to embed a DVD player in their new console and start up an online gaming service was for the simple fact that they waited too long. That's why I said they're now two steps back from the race -- and they are. Just face it, Sony and Microsoft are reigning supreme whilst Nintendo is slowing down.

No one said Microsoft was innovative. They're doing the right things -- pulling out all the stops. If you can't see that, you're fucking blind.

How can you say they 'were'? Just because the company is not doing well it doesnt mean they stopped being innovative. They keep introducing new things like the wireless controller (it's a fairly new feature), touch and dual screens (Nintendo DS) and who knows what 'new' features the Revolution is going to have.
And the reason I stated the whole online/dvd/control stick/rumble facts is because Quikzilver said: -"wow Microsoft is doing that, lets copy!" .The reality is that MS is the one using features already introduced by other videogame companies.

And don't worry, Im well aware that Nintendo is in 3rd place in the console war, at least here in the US, and it probably will stay there for this generation. It's sad to see that happen, especially when they have the best first and second party games. What's killing Nintendo is the lack of third party support, hopefully they'll gain some more for the Revolution.
