It is just a penalty but Rooney is 7 goals short of equaling Sir Bobby Charlton's record for England.

"Rooney can't score" lolz

1 world cup goal, the rest came in friendlies and qualifiers against San Marino and Kazakhstan

He was injured 80% of the time for international tournaments but the managers still desperately played him.

Congrats for being the first team to Qualify to UEFA EURO 2016 in France! :D Rooney's record equalling pen too.

Most of Rooney's latest goals for England were penalties against teams like San Marino.

Didn't watch but that team lineup looked mediocre; looked like a midtable EPL team for e.g. Everton.

I think that's a bit harsh about Rooney ... he was good in euro 2004, england didn't qualify for 2008, and he was suspended for the first 2 match of 2012, England qualified thanks to his goal though ... As Nady mentioned he had major injuries before World Cup 2006 and 2010 when he was on top form.

Imagine if it was a team GB, we could field this amazing team:

Rooney
Bale - Barkley - Sterling
Ramsay - Henderson
Shaw - Smalling - Stones - Williams
Hart

Rooney scored yet another penalty to hit the 50 mark. I think most of his latest goals for England has been penalties because he can't score from open play anymore. He has become a Soldado.

The 50 goals is still a fantastic achievement. Of his 50 goals, 6 only are penalties (I thought much more were penalties), 2 freekicks. The other 42 are from open play including 6 from outside the box. 11 goals were from headers.

Mus keeps saying he scores many against San Marino but only 10 % of his goals are against them. (H) He scored 5 against San Marino. He also scored 4 against Swiss and 4 against Croatia, 2 respectable opponents.

Of his 50 goals, 36 are in competitive games which is way more than Charlton.
