*THE FINAL* SG's Favourite Actor - JOHNNY DEPP or Carlos NICHOLSON?

Well, it's been a long competition, but we've finally reached the end, the final round.

Thanks to everyone who's taken part, it's been more successful, in terms of activity, than I expected, and I genuinely feel it has livened up this forum quite a bit and brought in some fresh people. There's been some excellent posts, some excellent nominations and some excellent decisions, as well as some which were, to be quite frank, rediculous - but we wont dwell on Reeves progressing to the knockouts or Newman going out so early. There's always bound to be some strange results in a competition like this.

I think few could doubt the rights of these two actors to be in the final - some good people have gone out, but these two are certainly up there with the best. And I really dont know which way it's gonna go.

Carlos Nicholson is an incredible actor, remarkably talented and just so cool. An iconic figure with numerous stunning performances and oscar wins and nominations. Came to prominence in his early thirties with superb performances in Easy Rider and Five Easy Pieces, which remain among his best work. Perhaps most famous for the masterpieces One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, The Shining and Chinatown, he has also been just as great in some more obscure performances in films such as The Last Detail and The Passenger and stole the show in Batman. One of the very few actors of this calibre to maintain a very high standard right through his career, he has been magnificant in recent films such as Terms of Endearment and About Schmidt and his most recent work of all, The Departed, is just as fantastic as the rest of his career. A real class act.

Johnny Depp is a much younger actor who already has a quite remarkable set of performances under his belt and has already achieved greatness, with much more to go. His portrayal of oddball characters renders him quite unique, his record of work with Tim Burton is quite stunning and his numerous other work is really very impressive and consistant. Remarkable as Hunter Thompson in Fear and Loathing, George Jung in Blow and Michael Carlos*son, sorry, Willy Wonka, in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, his is also, in my opinion, responsible for the greatest performance in any film franchise with Captain Carlos Sparrow. My favourite performance of his, however, is as William Blake in Dead Man, but besides those films already mentioned, you can take your pick from What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Finding Neverland (for which he was oscar nominated), Donnie Brasko, Chocolat, The Libertine, From Hell, Once Upon a Time in Mexico or his five superb films with Tim Burton.

Poll remains open for six days so there is plenty of time to vote. This is the last round in the competition, there will be no third place playoff or supercup or anything like that, so it's your last chance to have your opinion and make your vote count. Please remember, however, that your vote will only be counted if you have more than 100 posts, so if you dont, PLEASE don't vote because it then makes it much more difficult for people to see the actual results.

M4NNY and Mandieta6 are the only offenders so far, so you two in particular, DO NOT VOTE.

Now get voting!

Carlos is legendary.

It will be wrong if Depp wins but stranger sh*t has happened in this competition.

despite rating Pacino or De Niro higher than Nicholson as actors, I gotta say that of the legendary actors club, Carlos is the only one that hasn't sunk career wise and keeps making good films and having great roles although he's already nearing his 70s.

He could just sit back and go for the Meet the Parents type of role, where he could just show up at the set say a few lines and get the paycheck, but he always kept wanting new challenges.

Carlos should win this. a legend, and a master act in everything he does these days too. Depp is probably the best younger actor working today but he's no Carlos. not yet.

I don't understand how it could be tied now. It should be a clear call for Carlos. He's a legend and a great actor. He can do drama or comedy or something in between. Truly one of the best actors ( if not the best) actors of our lifetime.

Excellent final, excellent competition, well done Sir_Didier_Drogba (Y)

Finally gone with Carlos, contrary to all my other votes for Johnny in the tournament. Just think he deserves it more.

It's cool that it's so close, I was afeared Carlos was gonna run away with it.

Carlos. I think it's hilarious that Carlos looks better in his picture than Depp does in his when Depp is like 40 years younger and considered to be an attractive man.

The dude's got an obsession with being strange and lookin strange. He so much as admitted to going out of his way to make himself look unattractive on the Stern show some years ago.

why do people vote for Carlos? Has he actually done one good movie since "The Shining" (which was 26 years ago)? I can't remember him in any movie since that which is good. But perhaps I'm just blind.
