The Guilty Pleasure thread

What are your guilty pleasures? Things you enjoy but wouldn't admit to your friends that you do... that stuff.

We all have those secrets.

I tear up over chick flicks. I enjoyed the Notebook, Marley and Me, My sister's keeper etc.
plus I have a variety of music that I enjoy but will never play in front of my friends

I still watch and follow wrestling. Not as much as I used to, but still enough to be ashamed to admit it.

This!!

I blame The Rock for coming (sort of) back. But once wrestlemania is over, I'm done... maybe.

I also enjoy romance movies, and "love actually" is one of my favorites... :D

In and of itself, the phrase "guilty pleasure" seems like a reasonable way to describe certain activities. For example, it is pleasurable to snort cocaine in public restrooms, and it always makes you feel guilty; as such, lavatory cocaine fits perfectly into this category. Drinking more than five glasses of gin before (or during) work generally qualifies as a guilty pleasure. So does having sex with people you barely know, having sex with people you actively hate, and/or having sex with people you barely know but whom your girlfriend used to live with during college (and will now consequently hate). These are all guilty pleasures in a technical sense. However, almost no one who uses the term "guilty pleasure" is referring to activities like these. People who use this term are usually talking about why they like Joan of Arcadia, or the music of Nelly, or Patrick Swayze's Road House. This troubles me for two reasons: Labeling things like Patrick Swayze movies a guilty pleasure implies that a) people should feel bad for liking things they sincerely enjoy, and b) if these same people were not somehow coerced into watching Road House every time it's on TBS, they'd probably be reading A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man.

Both of these assumptions are wrong.

Shifty, it's interesting that he says people shouldn't feel guilty for liking things they enjoy, yet he thinks they should feel guilty about boring cocaine in a public bathroom. I certainly don't think that leaves anything to feel guilty about.

My guilty pleasure is that I post all kinds of personal ****, stories and experiences here yet a lot of people that know me are more in the dark about me because I'm pretty private in real life. (H)

without having disclosed too much about my personal life on here, i'm fairly certain that i've shared more here than in real life.

I share WAAAAAY more here than with anyone I actually know. If you add up everything that all my friends know about me, it's probably about what Alex (as an example) knows.

Hahaha, yeah I often think that. I've posted stuff at soccer gaming that I'd only tell my best mates. And I wouldn't tell all of them, all of it. I tell my fellow womanising buddies the womanising parts, etc etc. Here I tell the same group of people the same things

Likewise, if ANY of my real life friends found this site and took the trouble to go back through a few years worth of posts and threads, they would be like "holy ****!"

Another guilty pleasure of mine is that I really enjoy ice cream, particularly when I'm abroad in a hot country.

I'm terrible with Ice Cream. And I love vanilla in huge portions. Like fancy favours are fine, but a ridiculously big bowl of vanilla (caramel topping is good OR Milo - a granulated chocmalt powder for milk drinks- and honey is awesome too).

People take vanilla ice cream for granted. But it's the most popular flavour in the world for a reason.

Because it's the most available and goes on pie. Mint Chocolate Chip is easily the best flavor in the world.

Mint Choc Chip is probably my favourite as well. I also like honeycomb.

Vanilla I like with honey on top and crushed up malteasers.

I also really like fancy sorbets and pistachio which for some reason seems to only be available in France. Usually I have more delicate things like little sorbets in a waffle cone or something when I'm abroard and the big bowls of vanilla or mint or those insane Ben and Jerrys flavours when I'm in Britain.

Vanilla with honey and crushed maltesers would be very similar to Milo and honey I imagine. Great combination.

Mint Choc chip is awesome, I agree. As is vanilla Choc chip.

I also love caramel, if it's proper caramel, that has that real burnt sugar flavour. So good.

My favourite is those flavours with the really brittle caramel pieces in them, that just shatter and contrast next to the creamy ice cream. So good.

You ever made your own ice cream? My dad has an ice cream maker which I love ******* about with. My triumph was an amaretto ice cream with lumps of marzipan in it, and the top sprinkled with toasted almonds.

I'd love that. Amaretto is great.

Never done it. Mum had an ice cream maker, but got it after I moved out

Yeah same with my dad, and I dont think he has even used it once himself, I am hoping to persuade him to give it to me if I ever get my own permanent place. So yeah I just play around with it when I am home for Christmas. Orange and poppy seed with Cointreau was another success.

That sounds amazing.

And I'm all for vanilla ice cream's simplicity making it great, but I'm also a whore for all those fancy flavours you see in the supermarkets. If I'm buying ice cream with a group of people for a potluck or party or whatever, and I eye something like "pecan caramel hot fudge blast with brownie bits!" and a friend goes "mmm let's get MAPLE!" or some other basic **** like that I get annoyed.

That being said, Rolo ice cream... good lord.
