Yeah i would've mentioned Vela as well, but didn't he recently say something like that he didn't participate in the qualifiers and didn't help El Tri qualify for the World Cup, so he doesn't really deserve to go instead of someone else? Plus he had a problem with previous managers.
It's something i read from god knows where, might have been just media making shit up again. Or it might have been someone's comment i read somewhere.

He did have a meeting with the guy who's managing the team right now, right? And politely declined the call up or something.. That's for sure.

Piojo Herrera, the former Club America manager, manages the team now, he's the fourth manager in under a year. The Mexican Federation is a mess these days.

Beasley and a few fringe players. Tijuana has a lot of young Americans.

MLS is quickly becoming the EPL: Selling its soul to foreigners, at the expense of locals/nationals, all in the name of money.

The USA will never qualify for the knockout stages if their young players are playing in Mexico.

He was basically scapegoated for some players' party that happened after their NT duties in Monterrey. He was singled out and banned while he was a struggling fringe player in Arsenal and on loan to different clubs. The manager in charge at the time, Chepo, chose to call up players whom weren't getting regular playing time in their clubs (most notably Gio, Efrain Juarez, and Pablo Barrera), but also singled out Vela by not calling him up citing his lack of playing time as one of the reasons.

Fast forward a year or so. Vela is out of the NT. He finds stability in Real Sociedad. He blows up and starts to show how good he can be. People begin to think about how he should be playing with the NT again, but he now doesn't wanna play. It went on like that all qualifiers until finally the World Cup. He officially opted out of it, and frankly I don't blame him. It's a shame the federation is such a shit show and ran by buffoons that the best player in the country doesn't want any part with the national team. Oh yeah, plus the whole barely making it to the World Cup in one of the easiest federations to qualify in, but that's a whole 'nother story.

Oh okay. I actually knew most of that stuff about Vela, but thank you for explaining it to me in further details. That was perfect ELI5 material hah.. Anyway, I'd like to see the guy at the World Cup though, but it's not gonna happen. :(

And i'm also well aware of the fact that Chepo was a horrible manager, i'm quite glad that the guy is gone.

The Mexican football federation or whoever are in charge there is full of corruption. I don't exactly have a prime example right now though, but everybody knows this, i think.

And who would you prefer as a starter, Chicha or Peralta, or both? (Damn this was quite difficult to type, but i hope i got my point across).

Peralta is the undoubted starter. I'd pair him up with Giovani.

Chicha and Jiménez coming off the bench. I'm second guessing my assertion that Pulido was a lock but perhaps Piojo Herrera decides to take 5 strikers leaving out an attacking mid like Fabian or Aquino.

Yeah, ideally that's how I think it should look, but Piojo doesn't seem to rate Gio as a striker or they have some sort of behind-the-scenes beef that is hopefully just being blown out of proportion... not to mention Gio has had a run of bad luck with injuries of late.

So I was trying to read about Diego Costa's injury but I found this instead:

Gotta love the internet. (H)

Benfica - Barcelona. UEFA Youth Champions League Final. Was expecting much more tiki-taka and much less "let's give it to these African kids who are at this age so much superior to everyone else and let them run forward and score" from Barça.

edit: although to be fair, Adama Traoré is a fucking beast!
