The key is that both Lahm and Alonso are so aware they can cover in defense. There was one point where Alaba was damn near the most advanced player for Bayern, and Boateng dribbled through the center... leaving Benatia all alone, except Lahm and Alonso are so smart they wouldn't let anything happen.

English teams are completely devoid of competitiveness for whatever reason. They are all mentally weak with the possible exception of Chelsea. From City to Arsenal to Liverpool to United they are all just fragile teams that can't take pressure.

Definitely, altohugh does anyone think that he would have done the same against a proper defense? Scoring great goals against poor players isn't that great an achievement.
