I've made my views clear on this elsewhere I think, but I agree with most of what's been said, I think the handling of this by all concerned has been despicable from start to finish, in particular the parents and the media. I have to admit that the incompetance and complete idiocy of the parents struck me to such a degree that I was not at all surprised to see them implicated. Now they have turned their "Find Maddie" campaign into their own personal legal warchest, which again seems to me to be morally reprehensible.
a) Thousands of kids go missing every day, why does this one deserve special attention, because she's photogenic?
b) How can such rediculously media coverage and publicity from the parents possibly have anything but a negative effect, surely any abductor would be forced to kill and dispose of the victim immediately and surely that has happened, unless it was the parents of course.
c) How can such huge rewards (2 million I think) be justified when that money would save the lives of so many thousands of children in third world countries, all no less cute or deserving than Maddie.
d) How can the McCanns possibly justify the fact that they have released every detail of the investigation to the press when Portuguese Police Procedure states that investigations like these need a strong element of secrecy.
e) It is despicable how the McCanns have so suddenly turned on the police and are going back to accuse their previous work, for which they previously praised them.
f) How can they possibly be so adamant in their refusal to take any of the blame or admit their irresponsible parenting, they are constantly trying to justify themselves and play down their own incompetancies.
g) Wasnt the whole "World Tour" thing going a bit far, especially as they were living in luxury in a multitude of irrelevant countries at the expense of donors and well wishers.
h) Dont they just make you ******* sick, especially Kate, constantly clutching that toy, the constant wisful expressions on her perfectly made up face. I know it's superficial but they're the sort of people I'd like to punch in the face, hard and repeatedly.
i) As they are now suspects in what is essentially a murder investigation of their own child, why exactly do they still retain custody over the other childen?
j) And finally, do I really need 30 minute "Maddie Updates" on my news every night!? There are other things going on in the world at the moment, much more important and much more deserving. This story has been stuffed down my throat for months now and I am ******* sick to death of it, despite all the twists and turns. Today I walked past a news stand and saw the headline, in huge type, "McCann's call in the SAS". That one moment just said it all for me. I'm thinking of boycotting all news media until this whole thing is dead and buried (no pun intended).
