McGeady had actually turned down the chance to play for United. He said United offered him a contract, but when Celtic came in, his mind was made up, so I would be suprised if I were you.dubcrazy said:foster looks good at claiming the ball bardsley is the replacement for Gaz now,he is the player that will replace GAz when he retires and i woulfnt be surprised u flick on the news tomorrow and see maloney and mac geady sign for united

cant get the language the sw is using
Personally, I don't think there is any ONE player in the world at the moment who is an actual replacement for Keano in his prime. With that said, Carrick would be a good option as long as we sign a physical defensive midfielder with him. 17m pounds is too much though, 12m would be okay (but still hefty) for his talent.Silencer said:You really think that Carrick is the ideal replacement for Keano??
I'll tell you now SAF isn't going to sign 2 central midfielders. And im not exactly suprised because Paul Scholes is looking impressive, 2 goals today, and i remember that unbelievable long ball he played in Africa that led to Kieran Richardsons goal. He is definitely starting in the centre of midfield, its just Man Utd now need that defensive player to compliment him and let him have freedom in midfield to pull the strings. All Man Utd need is one midfielder, if it was something like Mascherano + Scholes in midfield next year, I would be delighted.barthez4 said:Personally, I don't think there is any ONE player in the world at the moment who is an actual replacement for Keano in his prime. That sums up exactly why we can't just sign one player - ESPECIALLY if Carrick is that one player. Even if we get the best defensive midfielder in the world, that still makes Smith or O'Shea his replacement in case of injury. Since I haven't been able to watch the preseason matches, I haven't seen Scholes' form, but I'll go by the majority and say that it looks like he will be starting as an attacking midfielder (by ability, not by Fergie's decision). We can't hope to survive without a player who can defend for 1.5 people, since the Ginger Prince's defensive abilities have apparently all faded and made way for his attacking skills. Carrick always struck me as more of a natural center midfielder who can drift forward and drift backwards, but with Carrick and Scholes together in midfield, I feel our backline would be far too exposed. In fact, it would possibly be more exposed than with Scholes and Smith, because Smith plays a defensive role - although not brilliantly by any means.ladylover said:True...we just need a midfielder, we have enough depth in our squad, except for the DM roll,

Have you actually watched Carrick play? He is perfect at covering the defense and complimenting Scholes. Plus Carrick's passing abilities are incredible, i can't believe anyone hasn't mentioned that. He may not be that phyiscal, but he's not scared of getting stuck in and can be equally effective holding United's midfield as someone else with a more aggressive nature.barthez4 said:Carrick always struck me as more of a natural center midfielder who can drift forward and drift backwards, but with Carrick and Scholes together in midfield, I feel our backline would be far too exposed.
