he's been named the best defender in Brazilian league and have played 7 matches for uruguay.

Luxemburgo said he is happy with the squad, and that the transfer speculation for defenders is all media work. but i didnt exactly understand this babelfish translated sentence: "Through my head it does not happen to file power stations" (“Por mi cabeza no pasa fichar centrales”?). i have no knowledge of the spanish language, except that i posses a spanish version of EA Sports Uefa CL 2004-2005, with spanish commentary and such ;).
Its on the official site.

Simply put, he's not thinking of signing any new defenders. He's happy with what he's got. If he's happy, then I'm happy. I trust Luxe.

OK kids, it's time again for me to optimistically rant about out squad and formation. Feel free to add you own rants. I going to use a 22 man squad. Two players per position(even though we have more).

GK Casillas and Diego - I don't need to say anything about Casillas. As for Diego, he is a very promising goalie. He will be a great backup. No worries.

RB Salgado and Diogo - Salgado is better defensively and Diogo is better offensively. Luxe has great options here. Plus Diogo could play in place of Beckham if neccesary. No worries.

LB R.Carlos and Bravo - If Roberto stays healthy than we'll be fine, other wise I would start Diogo on the left. Bravo is too mistake prone, we always have to worry about him.

RCB Helguera and Pavon - Helguera always gives it everything he's got and Pavon is getting alot better from what I saw last year. I would be comfortable with either one of them in the starting squad. No worries.

LCB Woodgate and Mejia - Woody's got a lot to prove. I think he going to deliver. If not than Pavon will have to step in. As for Mejia, he's good as the 4th defender. He's not the best, but he can get the job done. Woodgate's health and Mejia's reliability are something to worry about. If Woodgate stay healthy then I won't worry.

DMF Gravesen and P.Garcia - Both of these guys are pitbulls in midfield. They're rough and do what needs to be done. No worries at all here.

RCM Beckham and De la Red - Beckham is set to have a phenomenal season with us. De la Red is a big question mark. Although if Becks is out, you can alway put Baptista or Zidane there. Heck we can even play two DMF. So De La Red will not see much playing time. No worries.

LCM Baptista and Guti - Baptista will add a great deal to our squad. He can help with attack and defence very effectively. His role will be key. Guti is proven quality although he is not as good in defence. No worries in this position.

OMF Raul and Zidane - You can't go wrong either way here. Raul has proven that he has the vision to give that decisive pass and score from this position. Zidane needs to prove nothing. No worries at all.

RCF Ronaldo and Owen - Explanations are not neccesary for these two. They may start together or exchange this one spot. No worries.

LCF Robinho and Soldado - Robinho is going to compliment Ronaldo very very well. Our attack will be magical and blazing fast. Soldado on the other hand looks to deliver where Portillo failed. I hope to see Soldado get his chance. No worries.

In closing, our squad looks very solid all around with only a few question marks in defence. As long as Woodgate, Helguera, and Pavon stay fit, we'll be fine. If not then Luxe should play Gravesen and Garcia together to compensate. They also say a good defence is a strong attack, and we definately have that. I can't wait for the season to start.

Thats the thing though Nuno, as long as our squad is healty it does look good, but i dont think it will stay healty ( i hope im wrong ). Thats why we should get 1 more CB just to be sure.

LOL, Baptista is only good for scoring. If you're playing him for defence or for teamwork you are going to be sorely sorely disappointed. There is a reason that Caparros converted him into a forward; he was :sb9: in the middle of the field.

I like just about everything you said.

My only worry is centre-back. I'll say it again; we need another CB.

I love how many options we have from the DM's and up.

Diogo has never play on the left (not even as left midfielder). It would be like R. Bravo playing as RB.

yeah... that's the key: Woody staying healthy :(. if he can't stay healthy, we'll have a lot of problems.

I'd use Juanfran as Becks' backup, but i guess Luxa doesn't like him. De La Red is better as DM (well, that's what i heard)

i agree with the rest (Y) :sun:

Here's my reasoning for what I said...

In Brasil he was a DMF. In Sevilla he was a second striker. His main job will not be defence in Real Madrid. He'll have mostly attacking responsiblities like Beckham. Last year, Zidane played in that position. Baptista is better defesively than Zidane. So I see it as an improvement for that position. I don't expect him to be like Gravesen in midfield, I see him as good help for Gravesen when needed and excellent support for our attack.
