Lucarelli leaves Spurs door open

Cristiano Lucarelli has blasted Livorno chief Aldo Spinelli following his brother’s departure and admits an eleventh hour move to Spurs is still possible.

“My instinct is telling me to leave this place immediately, but my heart is pushing me to stay with the Amaranto,” last year’s Capocannoniere told reporters as he handed back the captain’s armband.

The striker was on target in Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Lecce and confessed after the game that he was considering offers from Tottenham and Newcastle United. His price-tag is believed to have reached £6m after he topped the Serie A scorers’ charts with 24 goals last term.

The situation had calmed over the weekend, but this afternoon degenerated wildly with news that Lucarelli had skipped the training session and called a Press Conference for this evening.

“Spinelli has hurt me deeply by suggesting I was only after money. Those who know me are aware that financial status means nothing as far as I am concerned. In two years at Torino I could’ve earned as much as it took me five seasons to get with Livorno and I rejected prestigious overseas offers.”

Even after this damning Press Conference, Lucarelli’s future at the Stadio Picchi is far from certain, as negotiations with Tottenham are continuing.

“Spurs have put in a request for me,” he continued. “If Livorno reach an agreement with the club for my sale, I don’t know if I’d sign the contract. I am deeply disappointed in the way President Spinelli has treated me and the entire team.”

Part of the problem is the decision of Cristiano’s brother Alessandro – also a born and bred Livorno supporter – to complete a permanent move to Reggina.

“President Spinelli waged war on me, despite the fact I scored four goals,” said the 28-year-old defender. “He tried to limit how much time I spent on the field and I was put in a position where I had to leave.”

There have also been some other transfer moves this afternoon, as Empoli have signed Fiorentina benchwarmer Christian Riganò on loan. The 31-year-old forward was a key figure in the Viola’s promotion from Serie C2 to the top flight, scoring 57 goals in 94 League appearances, but failed to find space over the last year.

Inter have captured Piacenza goalkeeper Paolo Orlandoni, putting further pressure on Francesco Toldo and new Brazilian shot-stopper Julio Cesar. It’s a return for the 33-year-old, who grew up in the Nerazzurri youth system.

Id be shocked if Fiorentina dont sign a new striker. I hope Luca Toni takes Rigano's n.9

James is a such a douche, going into that room after the chicano was crying to score points... do you have the life feed? do they have cameras in the shower? id figure they get down to biz there.

Oh, and the Serie A season (including my predictions/preview) have just been shaken up HUGE. The Michael Owen transfer may be stealing all the headlines, but... brace yourselves...... Empoli have signed Christian Rigano from Fiorentina on loan for the rest of the season. Now, not only does this guarentee Empoli survival (and maybe a run at the 4th CL spot), but this also changes the entire scope of the NT setup. Gilardino didnt score in his debut against Ascoli, so I think few would argue he deserves to keep his place, meaning Rigano will now slot into the Italian attack alongside Totti and the super duper rejuvenated Christian Vieri to terrorize defences come WC in Germany.

Great. Milan vs. Siena (Y) instead of Inter vs Palermo (C)

Here's me praying for RAI showing the game and then TLN getting screwed and switching to the Inter game

After all the sh*ts thats been spewed all summer, Cassano, Mutu, Chiellini and Mancini are all staying at their clubs.

I really hope Cassano can extend his contract with Roma as soon as possible so he can go back to focusing on football only. Itd be a damn shame if hes benched and than leaves for Juve in January (:/)

I was hoping Chiellini would move to somewhere that hed get some guarenteed playing time. Oh well, at least Bachini is back in Serie A. Im sure him and Mutu will get on famously...

Sampdoria playmaker Doni joins Mallorca

MADRID, September 1 (Reuters) - Real Mallorca reached an agreement to sign Italian midfielder Cristiano Doni from Sampdoria shortly before the transfer deadline.

Doni will be presented later on Thursday.

The 32-year-old playmaker, who was a member of Italy's 2002 World Cup squad, spent the last two seasons at Sampdoria, having risen to prominence in his five years with Atalanta.

The Italian becomes Hector Cuper's 11th close season signing as Doni, Greek striker Lampros Choutos and Getafe striker Yordi all joined the club on Wednesday, the final day of activity in the transfer window.

Mallorca, who narrowly avoided relegation last year, lost their opening game of the Primera Liga season last weekend, going down 1-0 at home to Deportivo Coruna.

I think I speak for everyone when I say Doni's career has REALLY taken off since WC 2002.

i was a real fan of this guy

i remember him being closely linked to juve just before wc02, and i was really happy

real shame, a few players from that wc02 are shadows of what they were
