The "Quadrado Mágico" didn't work so well in Real Madrid, did it? I like when we play with wingers even without Simão, Miccolli (if he stays) could play in the left wing. And on the other side we could use Karagounis, he's not to fast i known... but going trough the middle kinda sucks.. Nelson and Leo could do all the wing but it would be too tiring for both.. If Manu doesn't get the usual "Big Team Sickness" he's gonna be very useful, he was the one who carried Estrela to a fairly good season. So in my view 4-3-3 would be ok for the actual Benfica players.
If we can actually get a decent Striker, Benfica could use the 4-4-2 with Nuno Gomes doing the post-play as only he can, I would love to see Benfica with 2 strikers playing those small teams instead of using 2 back midfielders, I don't understand why we play this way at home, good old times when we used to crush whoever came to The Inferno...

that would be a great formation if we play with Leo and Nelson as full backs because they would be allowed to roam forward even more because the midfield would be solid enough to cover for them.

we can play like this even if Simao leaves, with him being allowed to roam in either wing and support the striker or drop Karagounis and play Simao + 2 forwards or 1 forward + 1 winger but we don't have any other quality wingers, so it would be bad to waste a quality midfielder so that a player like Robert can play.

442? No way... picking 2 from a pool of Manel Fernandes, Petit, Rui Costa and Karagounis would be stupid. Those guys should all play.

Yes, they're all very good, but I think Rei Costa can't play the whole 90 minutes and it's always good to have a good midfielder to secure the game in the second half in case we're winning, like Karagounis. This doesn't mean he has to stay benched every game.. But taking Rui Costa out and putting the likes of Beto...
