When Bayern are fully fit and on their game, they are an absolute joy to watch. I predicted them to bag 3 or 4 today after losing the first leg 1-0 but 7?! Damn. Gomez is a tall, half Spanish/half German reincarnate of Pippo. Absolute predator.

Yeah, at some point yesterday I turned to my friend and said that with the exception of Messi of course, there is no one as deadly in front of goal in the world right now than when Gomez is on form.

He's waaaay better than Pippo though, come on. Pippo's best ever season was 30 total goals, Mario bagged 35 across all competitions his last year with Stuttgart and has 73 going back to the beginning of last season. Even his much maligned international scoring rate is about equal with Inzaghi's for Italy.

But it's not only that either, Gomez happens to be the guy that I would resent and be jealous of the most if I was not a Bayern fan. The guy is 6'3'', has model good looks, and let's be real, isn't THAT good at soccer except for his world class ability to score goals, the most glamorous part of the game which gives him more credit than his actually footballing ability should dictate.

Yeah, he's pretty hateable. Mostly because he just gets a lot of goals, while that is pretty much all he does. On some forum I've seen people arguing that he's better than RvP. There's just no way. Gomez is a clinical finisher, but that's about it. Like yesterday, Ribery was raping the defense and passing to Gomez for tap-ins and a bit harder scoring chances. RvP carries his team alone, I don't think Gomez could ever do that. He needs someone to create for him. But when somebody does, he will finish it.

He couldn't carry his team to a top 4 finish in England, but considering what's happened to Stuttgart since he's left I'd say he might be better than you think. Stuttgart finished 3rd his final season there, then dropped to 6th the next year, and 12th after that.

This is exactly why I compared him to Pippo in the first place. Gomez is probably a better all-around striker given his size and strength though, definitely not saying Pippo was better than he is now.

Comparing him to RvP is just silly though. He's been on another planet this season.

Expecting a goal fest tonight, considering how shockingly poor both teams were defensively in Naples. That said, Chelsea are yet to concede at the Bridge in this season's Champions League. However, they do remain winless in their last 5 CL knockout games.

Yeah, that's what I'm worried about. I think we could get the goals we need, but that strike force of theirs could easily put two in against us and eliminate all our efforts. JT is back, not sure if that's a good thing. At least RDM should play a tactic for which he is more suited than AVB's high back lines.

Got my feelings out in the Chelsea thread, so let's analyze this here.

Of the teams left in the CL I seriously think we are favourites against four of them. APOEL would be the dream draw, Marseille we can beat, AC Milan I would really fancy us against after tonight's performance, Benfica would be another dream.

Bayern, Barca and Real another kettle of fish, but WE ARE ******* READY FOR THEM.

Hamsik is overrated.

They all are to an extent, but yeah Hamsik most of all. The only Napoli player that has wow'd me this year has been Maggio who I have a massive man-crush on.
