The Ultimate Guide to a smoother (and better) FIFA 06

Leftos

So, this is how I managed to get completely smooth gameplay and framerate, as well as get my FIFA experience a whole lot better (thus the various "apply this or that patch" steps); the steps are exactly as I did them, and don't get on my back calling me a cheater for using an unlocked profile, but I'm not all for the "unlocking" in FIFA (or any other soccer game for that matter.) I play my carrer fair. Anyway, here it is:

1. Uninstall FIFA 06.
2. Delete your FIFA 06 folder both in Program Files (your install folder) as well as the one in My Documents (your profile folder).
3. Install FIFA 06.
4. Install FIFA 06 Official Patch 1.
5. Apply the CEP or any league patch for that matter, if you want.
NOTE! Do NOT install:
- CL Turf Patch
All the above have been proved to decrease performance through testing.

6. Apply Billy's or OckHAM's or NK's (recommended) gameplay patches. (IMPORTANT STEP)
7. Apply Rinaldo's Animation Patch.
8. Apply fifaCCitiu.com's Detailed Turf Patch.
9. Download this unlocked profile and extract it to My Documents\FIFA 06\.
10. Start FIFA 06.

You should now have a completely smooth framerate, much better gameplay (thanks to the gameplay patch), a whole new bunch of player moves (thanks to the animation patch) and everything unlocked (thanks to the profile.)

I suggest that if you want to keep your experience as good as it can be, to keep checking for updates on CEP as well as the gameplay and animation patches.

Hope it works for you, it did for me with the rig I mention below. Give your feedback!

For a REALLY good game of footie, flush FIFA right down the nearest sh*tter and get a Konami title.

@OckHAM: It is, actually. That, together with avoiding some certain graphic patches (I'll add more once I test them) and setting the resolution high (which is preset with the unlocked profile.) Strange thing is, I notice a whole lot better performance when using 1280x1024 than 1024 or 800. Anyway... This tutorial is meant to be a newbie guide to a better FIFA. Not just in terms of "smoothness", but in terms of a full experience, thus the recommendations for the CEP and the animation patch. You've done a great work, and I think my respect for you is quite well shown through this thread.

@Shards: Thanks for spamming the thread. Notice the title? "A better FIFA." This is not the thread, or even the forum to make comments such as "flush FIFA down the ****ter." Your post was totally irrelevant and inappropriate, so I think reporting it would be the right thing to do. Thanks for participating.

great minds think alike. dude all the steps suggested are not needed. simply create a file called situation.ini in your fifa main folder and enter

[]
RENDER_RATE_MODE=3

//thats all you had to do

Avok, I think you misunderstood the purpose of this thread. The smooth framerate is just a small part of this tutorial. This tutorial is about getting a better experience in a whole, like a guide of the must downloads for those new to the game. It's true that the line you mention provides the smoother framerate, but this guide is about more than that. I guess the title is misunderstood, so I'm going to change it.

P.S. By the way, I'm a really nice guy. I even provided links for the patches in the first post! :shades:

Sorry SimplyL, I did not see the complete title (including the word "better") on your thread: then it's a very useful guide indeed. I can suggest you to add the Soccergaming KitsAddon Patch to the must-have downloads list. For the render rate mode 3 it has no effect as the possible options are 0, 1 and 2.

Will do. I just want to carefully test each graphics patch before I add it to the MUST or MUSTN'T download list.

EDIT: Think you can provide me with a link to the Kits Addon? I seem to have trouble finding one.

P.S. And it will be much better once CEP 0.11 is released... :P I want my Greek league!

Just wanted to let you know that if anyone of you has a specific patch in mind that enhances the FIFA experience without impacting framerate a lot, please say so, and I'll be glad to add it to the guide. I hope it's been of some help to people who have recently bought the game or didn't know which patches to download.

This guide is great. I used to get quite a bit off choppiness, but now nothing. It's brill. With the Gameplay patch and new turf, my fifa experience is 100% better. Scores of games especially are much more realistic, 1-0, 1-1, 2-1 etc instead of 4-0, 3-0,5-0 etc. :)
So Cheers!

Glad to see you like the guide! Thanks for the feedback!

Kudos go to all the patchmakers behind the patches mentioned in the guide.

UPDATE: Added NK's Gameplay Patch, a MUST download for everyone that's bored of the current FIFA gameplay. It just makes the game brand new and as realistic as it could be.

UPDATE #2: I can't believe that I had forgotten maybe the most important patch of all, the official one! It's added in the guide now.

I have found a new thing to enhance your FIFA 06 experiences, although I can only offer it to NVidia users as I have never used an ATI card and do not know the equivalent.

I have found that there is an option
(from right clicking on the desktop > properties > Geforce 6600gt (in my case) > Performance and Quality Settings)
to create a custom profile for FIFA 06 by clicking 'Add...'

You can then browse for your FIFA06.EXE file in its correct directory and give the profile a name.

After doing this you can change the Anti-aliasing and ansiotropic filtering options (as well as a few others, but i kept the defaults for those)

Uncheck Application Controlled for both (as you cannot set them in the actual FIFA 06 game)

And then set the level you wish depending on the power of your gfx card. I managed to have full 8x AA and 16x ansio filtering without any significant loss in performance.

Oh lastly I set Image Quality to High Quality and force mipmaps to Trilinear. Triple buffering was also on.

I then ran FIFA 06 and was impressed by the added well, Image quality and gfx smoothness. The detail of the 06 turf patch also made me go 'Wow' :D

Hope this is a good mini guide for some users. Sorry for those that dont see a better effect or are ATI users, although If an ATI user can create a mini guide too that'd rock.

Cheers

8. Apply fifaCCitiu.com's Detailed Turf Patch.

Thanks for the info Leftos as I've now managed to get a much smoother look to the game. However, I copied the zdata 86.big file to the FIFA data folder, rebuilt using fatbuilder, but the new turf does not appear in the game. Can you advise if you installed either the 1gk or 2gk version of the patch and if so, how did you install it ?
