No chance. Simply drop Essien back to help Makelele and let Lampard and the front 3 cut open the massive gap in midfield, and wham, kill them on the break. Man marking our back four, in addition to Essien and Makelele will still allow for the requisite defensive bodies and it will also result in Lampard, Robben, Duff and Drogba/Crespo running freely. Considering Robben and Duff are usually double teamed, and deliver imagine them left one-one-one with their defensive counterparts.

We can also play without going through Makelele, rememeber when we were moaned at in the media for playing the long ball?

Any loss of possession from our opponents will result in a "long ball" to our offensive side (as noted) and they will run riot.

It sounds plausible but only to the gullible.

mourinho gets around that easily...i'm not saying chelsea won't lose, i'm just saying that one specific tactic won't help, coz all that 4-2-4 tactic does is go around the chelsea players, not jose mourinho...and believe it, mourinho will manage to turn it around.

There is one way of beating Chelsea but that would mean Arsenal and Man Utd joining forces to become.....Manchester Arsenal United !

They got a fluke goal against us and beat Wigan in the 90+ min...... LUCK has been on their side too..... Yea they have massive talent and a good coach but they got lucky in 2 of thier wins........

To attack is the way to go when you're up against Chelsea..

Look at last year Champions League

Bayern Munich 3-2 Chelsea
Chelsea 4-2 Bayern Munich
(Chelsea win 6-5 on aggregate)

Chelsea 4-2 Barcelona
Barcelona 2-1 Chelsea
(Chelsea win 5-4 on aggregate)

Barcelona and Bayern had almost beaten Chelsea if not for their bad luck (6)
Attack is truly the best way of defence :jambo:

They can be boring, but at times you just have to admire some of the football they play, specially when they are attacking.

Exactly. The problem the article doesnt address is how, when the ball is won for Chelsea, the world class attackers up front and Lampard will squander all their opportunities. If Del Horno and Ferreira are two full backs who, in the estimation of the author, would be unable to do more than defend against opposing wingers, then I shudder to think what the likes of Warnock, Lauren or Mills would be able to do against the likes of 4 of the best wingers in the world.

If this guy actually thinks a midfield of Keane and Scholes would make this strategy work, then I have serious doubts about whether he has seen either play this year. Sissoko/Gerrard and Alonso, perhaps, but on their form this year, that pair would get eaten alive.

Chelsea Football Club has right now, the most boring team tactics in the world.
Yah, id like to be conceeding 3 a game to the likes of newly promoted sides, just to spice things up a bit, but apparrently Mourinho doesnt want to play that way.

By the way, have you seen Chelsea play this year at all? Or do you just say that because everyone else does? Go ahead and check your facts and then get back to us

I have no problem with Chelsea being boring and winning. A win is a win. And in England- will be the only place they win playing like that.

3) Bobo Balde special on Terry
4) Lauren special on Makelele
5) van Nistelrooy stud drag on Robben/Wright-Phillips
6) .44 special on Mourinho
