Things I Dont Understand About Pes Fans

i dont get how all you diehard pes fans defend the game so blindly, i used to be a fifa fan but i am currently playing PES3 and i have to agree its better, but not flawless, as a matter of fact there are some things that are better in the FIFA games from which im going to make a list

-graphics
-licenses ( kits in PES# are crappy as f..k), the badges too
-the free kick system, is years beyond the one on PES3 at least in fifa2004
-player resemblance
-# of leagues
-animation, the motion capture is more realistic ( for example player sprints)

i just guess you people havent even bothered to play and give the FIFA games a try, or are so numb minded that can even tell the qualities or flaws of both games, just try to have better judgementes and have some goddamn grounds before you criticize something and call an idiot to whoever likes fifa

See my post about "touching the face of God"... you'llll find that many folks who are now committed to PES3 are former absolute devotees of FIFA.

I love FIFA's spark and dazzle; but without realistic gameplay, its all "sound and fury signifying nothing." PES3 has realistic gameplay in spades, IMHO FIFA doesn't compare...at all, in terms of gameplay.

With the patches that are out (like the Wolf's patches and the ProRevolutionOnline.com Superpatch), the kits that are upgradeable on my PES3 game are absolutely comparable to FIFA's kits, often much better, thanks to this online community...just as, very often, the FIFA community has upgraded the kits on offer from EA.

There's nothing wrong with a diffeence of opinion; those that lack toleration of that are, IMHO, wrong.

But I would ask yourself this, Iceman Cometh-style:

"Would good is it for man to gain the whole world but lose his soul?"

Indeed; what good is it to have every league and every stadium if it doesn't feel like the football you play and watch?

I've said it before, and I'll say it again; one GLANCE at just he OPENING movies for PES3 and FIFA 2004 gives you clear insight regarding what's to come, and let's you know, in part, the differeing philosophy of the two development teams.

PES3's opening film is from the fans' and players's perspective, in terms of having a poor close to the previous sesason, working hard on the fundamentals in the off-season, and then executing those fundamentals, with heart and commitment, for glory in the following season...passion, authenticity, and the value of the spirit of the game for fans and players - exudes from this opening movie.

FIFA 2004 opens with a "cult of personality," seemingly, IMHO< buying into the media spin surrounding various "highlighted" celebrities; it also centrally focuses upon EA's newest-latest "take" on a gameplay engine that has, in fact, existed since FIFA 98: RTWC...the same one, with different tweaks, like this year, with "Off-the-Ball Control" (don't forget that trademark!), reflecting something -movement without the ball - that is ABSOLUTELY FUNDAMENTAL in football, but - apparently up until now - has never been part of the gameplay engine in FIFA games...

So EA are actually TELLING you that your gameplay, up to this point, has been inadequate, has been less than authentic. I;m not talking about the latest evolution of gameplay subsuming the last one; this is the "spin" I was mentioning earlier, of which the opening movie is the first salvo.

I join those who have played FIFA, and given money to EA, for many years now, in their excitement over PES3 (particularly on the PC); it is, IMHO< the best football game out right now, by miles and miles...

Is it perfect? Absolutely not. But neither is real football. The question is "Is it authentic?" I must say YES.

I guess the same thing could be said for FIFA; it is authentic, in many ways. IMHO though, those ways mean less than zero if the PLAYING OF THE ACTUAL GAME seems false or fake. Until now, as a PC owner, there was no alternative.

Now there is, and I thank God for it.

not that i defend the game blindly, but all the points you raised can be countered.

i loved 2002 world cup and fifa 2003, but fifa 2004 was just a clunker gameplay wise.

- graphics/license/kits. First of all, the graphics in PES3 are not that bad at all. Sure the players in FIFA are well detailed but are you really going to see all that during normal gameplay? No. PES3 has good player models, most look like their real life counterparts, and kits can be patched to be made to look like the real thing.

You can also download roster patches for easy "license" sure the announcer won't say the team name but is that a big deal?

IMO the disparity in graphics between the two games isn't that big. At least PES will run at a constant 60 fps.

The only gameplay point you mentioned is the freekick one... I agree FIFA's is easier to use but I admit myself that i suck at freekicking. Maybe one of the PES experts can lend a hand.

Some graphic aspects are better in fifa , but not all

-licenses ( kits in PES# are crappy as f..k), the badges too

allright you've got a point, but I'd rather see the game's budget spent on gameplay than on licencess

-the free kick system, is years beyond the one on PES3 at least in fifa2004

No. Fifa's free kick system is just a lot fancier, PES3 has a much simpler and more realistic free kick and corner style

-player resemblance

That's to be discussed...check out the "FIFA VS PES graphics all come in" thread

-# of leagues

again you're correct

-animation, the motion capture is more realistic ( for example player sprints)

What are you talking about man? there's no comparison! PES animations are amazing, and much more realistic and smooth than FIFA. I think everyone agrees with me on that one.

What you haven't mentioned, and which is the true thing that FIFA is better at is COMMENTARY...Pes' Commentary is terrible

i'm glad that i have gotten very positive responses, in reality i wasn't trying to prove one game to better over the other cause as i said it clearly pes3 is a lot better most of all gameplaywise and i agree 100% with you guys, that is what really makes them game. My point is that after all FIFA is not that bad there are some things that could be highlited , it just pisses me off that some people are so stubborn and are not open minded to any kind of criticism against pes3 and positive comments about fifa

Graphics? The graphics in PES3 are much better than FIFA. Look at a few graphics threads and capture the FIFA zombies and their char grilled skin to compare. Player models in FIFA are disgusting, with huge heads that look as if they're stiched on and tiny angled shoulders with long monkey arms. The FIFA graphics really are horrendous and no comparison to PES3 in the slightest.

Let's not talk about gameplay, because PES3 is probably the best sports game in existance, while FIFA is a poor, poor video game which hardly resembles real fotball....in the slightest. Unplayable.

criticism is fine, constructive or otherwise, but I find few "good"things about EA's latest effort. And if there are good things, what's the point when the game isn't football?

99% of the experience is gameplay, EA are missing 99% of a football sim....

Graphics-Better in PES3 actually.

Licenses-OK, the only thing fifa has.

Free Kicks-LOL wow, i'm glad you love your free kick and corner fancy mini games on fifa, i tend to like mine simple and realistic like on PES.

# of leagues- shame you don't have the gameplay to play in them aint it really?

Animations- Your having a laugh if you think fifa has better animation.

OVERALL - you don't seem to care much about the actual football do you?

listen, if you were smart enough to actually read thoroughly and carefully you would have noticed that i wrote that i am playing pes3 and that i consider it better over fifa i was just trying to point out some good things done by ea in the fifa games

if you actually liked real soccer you would go for the most accurate representation of the real thing, it is totally understandable that you prefer pes3 over fifa ( i do to ) but, as your own words ( i tend to lime mine simple ) show it you really have no idea of what real football is, i mean how the f..ck could youi prefer the free kick system in PES# you just have to be nuts, or maybe you just havent seen the one in fifa , it is so realistic , you can even put spin on the ball and actually see it rotating the way it would on real life, you have a point on gameplay because PES gameplay is obviously a lot better, but the running animations on pes3 are more arcadey than the ones in fifa

OVERALL: if you had some kind of common sense and grounds ( the word simple doesnt really make up too much for an argument ) you would be able to differentiate the pluses and minuses of both games, but as i can clearly see you are just another one of those foolish PES fans

ps: i do care a lot about real football that is why i took the time to post this and expose some good things to be considered about FIFA ( although i like pes3 better )

You need to learn how to use the free-kick system in PES3 instead of whining. Try powering up your shot and then holding on to the left or right arrow as the player runs up to kick the ball. You'll see the ball curl based on stats. If you are more than 30yards away from goal, Hold on to the UP arrow while powering up the bar and then hold on to left/right to swerve it. If less than 25 yards and you think a chip is more viable, hold on the down arrow while powering up then add some curl... See, it's so much more realistic than that FIFA shizte. And you know what? FIFA ripped PES3 but merely simplified the Free-kick technique that PES fans hold so dear. I'm sorry for the poor english but I'm in a rush and also because I can't believe you'd think a game like pES3 has no curl in it's FKs. Don't you watch videos? And another thing. PES3 graphics are anytime betta than FIFA's. Check out the PESvsFIFA thread and compare.

-graphics

. . . i prefer the pes3 graphics, at least the crowd react to teh game!

-licenses ( kits in PES# are crappy as f..k), the badges too

. . . so having not all the liscences make it a bad game? If it bothers you that much then just change it!

-the free kick system, is years beyond the one on PES3 at least in fifa2004

.. . try actually learning how to use it first!

-player resemblance

. . . look at Owen, Heskey etc. and you'll see that the player resemblance is very good.

-# of leagues

. . . i love the master league and its settings. It is much more challenging and playable than Fifa.

-animation, the motion capture is more realistic ( for example player sprints)

. . . blimey, the fifa motion looks like amiga graphics compared to the pes ones!

I tried fifa 2003 and 2004 but after going to PES i couldn't go back as they are in a completely different league.

you're calling our attacks on FIFA ungrounded? Read the PES forum or this forum and find the 100+ threads which compare the games and evaluate the aspects which are better in either one. In fact if you had done that, you'd see that your post is both ignorant and unfounded in every sense of the word !

About the free kick-system in PES:
Think about it... if it was easy, it would spoil the whole game! The game is made to have a challenge to score. THAT is one of the mayor differences with FIFA.
Ever tried to score in real life from a free kick? And? Was you annoyed when you did not score? No, you wasn't because it IS difficult to find the right touch, speed and curl.
What did Konami? They made a free-kick system which IS difficult, but trainable on the training ground. JUST LIKE IRL!
Here you see again what Mel Brennan wrote about the difference in philosophy from both development teams... EA practically reach over how to score from the free kick and Konami made it part of their realistic gameplay :)

PES definitely has the better boots!!!! adidas predator, air zoom (w/ wolfpack), etc.

fifa's boots don't even have two unique sides, it's mirrored i think.

Spurs4Life

Starting XI
Ok i have got and played both games,so i think i am worthy of a opinion.

Graphics: I play both games on 1280-1024 resolution, high detail and PES3 graphics are far better, they are alot smoother and clearer and for example when u do a long ball its swift and clear on PES3,on fifa is looks a bit jerky. On saying that i do prefer fifa 2004 face models.

Licences: Now PES3 is on PC now i dont think fifa fans can boast this now,u can download patches for everything, stadiums, kits, balls,ad boards, ref kits etc....only thing that it doesnt have is licenced commentary for some players and teams which is far better in fifa 2004,but then again i dont think it matters much.

Freekick system: I think its a joke that some people can actually say fifa's freekick system is better, even more of a joke that they say its more realistic!!. On fifa it dont feel like u are in control. On pro evo 3 its so much more realistic and u feel so much in control of where the ball is going and when u score a 30 yard free kick that curles top cornere with beckham in his own unique style u feel satisfied.

Player resemblance: Yes fifa has the edge on this one, fifa's face models are truly amazing, they look just like them, they done a good job on this part of the game

Animation: once again its a joke to say fifa's is better. PES3 is atleast 10 times better in that department, the way the players move is far more realistic and fluid,on fifa it looks jerky and the animation looks to arcady.

Overall: fifa only has the edge in player face models in my opinion and commentary.
