See my post about "touching the face of God"... you'llll find that many folks who are now committed to PES3 are former absolute devotees of FIFA.
I love FIFA's spark and dazzle; but without realistic gameplay, its all "sound and fury signifying nothing." PES3 has realistic gameplay in spades, IMHO FIFA doesn't compare...at all, in terms of gameplay.
With the patches that are out (like the Wolf's patches and the ProRevolutionOnline.com Superpatch), the kits that are upgradeable on my PES3 game are absolutely comparable to FIFA's kits, often much better, thanks to this online community...just as, very often, the FIFA community has upgraded the kits on offer from EA.
There's nothing wrong with a diffeence of opinion; those that lack toleration of that are, IMHO, wrong.
But I would ask yourself this, Iceman Cometh-style:
"Would good is it for man to gain the whole world but lose his soul?"
Indeed; what good is it to have every league and every stadium if it doesn't feel like the football you play and watch?
I've said it before, and I'll say it again; one GLANCE at just he OPENING movies for PES3 and FIFA 2004 gives you clear insight regarding what's to come, and let's you know, in part, the differeing philosophy of the two development teams.
PES3's opening film is from the fans' and players's perspective, in terms of having a poor close to the previous sesason, working hard on the fundamentals in the off-season, and then executing those fundamentals, with heart and commitment, for glory in the following season...passion, authenticity, and the value of the spirit of the game for fans and players - exudes from this opening movie.
FIFA 2004 opens with a "cult of personality," seemingly, IMHO< buying into the media spin surrounding various "highlighted" celebrities; it also centrally focuses upon EA's newest-latest "take" on a gameplay engine that has, in fact, existed since FIFA 98: RTWC...the same one, with different tweaks, like this year, with "Off-the-Ball Control" (don't forget that trademark!), reflecting something -movement without the ball - that is ABSOLUTELY FUNDAMENTAL in football, but - apparently up until now - has never been part of the gameplay engine in FIFA games...
So EA are actually TELLING you that your gameplay, up to this point, has been inadequate, has been less than authentic. I;m not talking about the latest evolution of gameplay subsuming the last one; this is the "spin" I was mentioning earlier, of which the opening movie is the first salvo.
I join those who have played FIFA, and given money to EA, for many years now, in their excitement over PES3 (particularly on the PC); it is, IMHO< the best football game out right now, by miles and miles...
Is it perfect? Absolutely not. But neither is real football. The question is "Is it authentic?" I must say YES.
I guess the same thing could be said for FIFA; it is authentic, in many ways. IMHO though, those ways mean less than zero if the PLAYING OF THE ACTUAL GAME seems false or fake. Until now, as a PC owner, there was no alternative.
Now there is, and I thank God for it.
