Did you notice the effcts15.dnt file in the data folder...it has all the info about streamers, flares and camera flashes...I managed to increase the number of flares in the game to 11 instead of just 4 that are actually in the game. Even if I add some more though these won't show up in the game. That's probably because my graphics card is pretty lame (only 16Mb). Has any1 tried this?
Here's how I did it
for example:
363. flash => neutral {494.07,820.69,-6805.54} {0.00,-173.75,0.00} {1.00,1.00,1.00} {255.00,255.00,255.00,255.00}
I change:
flash to smoke
neutral to home
replace the last 3 parentheses by
{0.00,0.00,0.00} {0.22,0.56,0.22} {128.00,128.00,128.00,255.00} so in its 'final' state this line looks like:
363. smoke => home {494.07,820.69,-6805.54} {0.00,0.00,0.00} {0.22,0.56,0.22} {128.00,128.00,128.00,255.00}
However this won't work, since the y-coordinate 820.69 is too high...this should always be less than 300! But probably it is better to pick the lines that have y<300 and swap them instead of just changing the coordinate, as some of them may be flying in the air or buried underground if you change it by yourselves!!!!
Also the flares should be placed one after the other in the file (like they are originally arranged in the file -flashes - flares - streamers)
My guess is for better graphics cards the number of flares that the game can handle increases, so more would probably show up
and the whole ingame atmosphere would look waaay better....
This is the main idea....I am sorry I can't you the file, since I am faaaar away from my home pc....Hope that someone will do it for themselves
I did it with a hex editor, but it can probably be done with notepad
